In the middle of busy wards, back-to-back clinics, and late-night emergencies, Dr Sunil Ravinder Gill is exactly where he wants to be.

A Urology Resident at Sengkang General Hospital and an alumnus of LKCMedicine Class of 2019, Dr Gill’s days are fast, demanding, and often unpredictable, but it is the moments with patients that make it all worth it – like seeing someone walk back into clinic fully recovered after a life-threatening condition.

Beyond the hospital, he continues to serve in the Singapore Scout Association, carrying the same values of responsibility, teamwork and service into everything he does.

From shaping global cancer screening strategies to spotting otters on his commute in Singapore, Professor Jon Emery’s journey is anything but ordinary.

Appointed as Professor of Family Medicine at , Prof Emery brings world-leading expertise in early cancer detection and genomic medicine to Singapore. As Co-Director of Research Institute for Cancer Prevention, Screening and Early Detection (RISE), he is driving new research to make cancer screening more precise, personalised, and effective.

Inspired by personal loss and guided by decades of research across the UK and Australia, his work focuses on detecting cancer earlier so more lives can be saved.

The proof is in the poo: S’pore study links gut health to fatty liver disease 14/06/2026

Scientists have discovered a gut protein that links what you eat to the health of your liver.

A team of researchers at LKCMedicine, led by Associate Professor Andrew Tan, Vice Dean of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, has identified a gut protein that links diet, gut bacteria and liver health. Their study suggests that stool-based biomarkers could help detect early gut-liver changes before more serious liver diseases develop.

The findings could also open the door to integrating gut health monitoring into existing nationwide screening programmes, potentially enabling earlier intervention and better long-term health outcomes.

Through hands-on activities and immersive learning experiences, students gained a glimpse into the journey of studying medicine. 🩺✨

Organised by students from Hwa Chong Institution, this year's symposium was themed Per Aspera, Ad Astra, which is Latin for "Through Hardship, to the Stars."
