The Open Primary facilitates primary level private education in Singapore as alternative to Phase 3 or AEIS local school placement
The Open Primary facilitates primary level private education in Singapore as a strong option for primary level education in Singapore (besides Phase 3 or AEIS local school placement and foreign curriculum private schools in Singapore) . Up to two Private Teachers are assigned to a permanent class of 9 same age students for a 36 week academic year at a safe and secure Campus that is most conveniently located for the students.

This year we combined our celebration for Racial Harmony Day and International Friendship Day. Some of the activities the children were able to enjoy included:
1. Playing traditional Singapore games
2. Learn about and eat traditional foods from all around the world
3. The traditional kacang putih (peanut) stall
4. Learn traditional dances
5. Wear traditional clothes
6. Learn common phrases in different languages
7. Henna art
Through fun and games the teachers hope to impart the importance of appreciating, being tolerant and respectful of each other's customs and traditions and to be inclusive even as each child embraces his/her own unique cultural identity.

What was first on our TOP to-do list when Covid restrictions were eased? Learning journey! We went on our first learning journey in 2 years. The older students were thrilled to be able to take trips out with their friends again and our Primary 1 students were all excited about their first field trip. There was ample opportunity for learning and discovery amidst the flora and fauna. Beautiful weather, wonderful company and lots of fun and laughter! Definitely one of the highlights of our 2022 academic year.

Despite the lull in conducting school-based activities, we have been actively running the TOP programme throughout the Covid pandemic. In accordance to MOE directives, we navigated through phases of virtual learning as well as classroom lessons.
Our teachers utilised the Zoom platform to conduct dynamic and interactive online lessons to keep students meaningfully engaged and to ensure minimal disruption to their learning. Although we missed being able to conduct activities like our annual Sports Day, where students from our various centres get to meet and interact with one another, we adapted and partook in our own virtual activities and celebrations.
From Children’s day to birthdays, we were able to create equally precious memories and ensure that our students continue to enjoy a holistic and differentiated learning experience which is the essence of our TOP learning framework.
The Open Primary's elevator pitch is a quick overview of what our programme has to offer to students and parents.
Nothing like a Learning Journey to get the kids excited. At tail end of 2019 Term 4 our Pasir Ris and Tampines classes took part in Script Writing and Story Telling Workshop at Goodman Arts Centre kindly facilitated by Caryn Moseley of Creative Theatre Magic. Artistic, Excellent, Amazing are just some of words the kids described their experience at the Works
Ahead of the curve? Time will tell but at The Open Primary we work hard to keep up to speed. We think we are doing that with our Mixed Enrichment Programme. Singapore's Minister of Communications & Information this week announced mandatory 10 hour Coding programmes for upper primary students in Singapore national schools. The Open Primary is now in its second year of partnering with Computhink Kids SG to provide Coding classes for our Primary 3 and Primary 4 classes. We recognise the importance of technology so we added the Coding to supplement the students' online assignments on the AsknLearn platform.
As much as technology is an integral if not dominant part of our lives our Mixed Enrichment Programme also includes artistic endeavours.
Evolve Arts completed their second Drama programme with earlier in the year, Forest3 is currently running an Arts programme, Advent Music another returning partner will pick-up the mic after Arts/Coding programmes and they be joined by another soon to announced specialist music partner.

Coders at work, ahead of 2020........
What often goes unseen are an athlete's hours of training, technique refinement, injury rehab and emotional and mental ups and down before arriving on top of the Olympic medal podium.
In some respects Singapore Maths can be like the quest for an Olympic gold medal. We regularly encounter sample worksheets, practice books and test papers for Singapore Maths curriculum. What often goes unseen is the step by step approach and practical references contained in the prescribed Textbooks (My Pals are Here, Targeting Maths and Shaping Maths). Given an enabling environment, be it more time, a conducive number of students, no pressure from external exams, a Teacher can explore in depth with each new area of Maths with his/her class including hands-on engagement to enhance the students’ understanding.
The Private Eye was able to catch a glimpse of Ms Hairani covering the principles of number bonds and additions within 10 with her Primary 1 class in Bukit Gombak. Ms Hairani and her class used the hands on counters as suggested in the My Pals Are Here Math Textbooks. Counters are one of the dedicated tools that The Open Primary teachers use in their lessons. You would be surprised by how you can adapt household items for practical learning with guidance from Textbooks.........

The Private Eye will be visiting The Open Primary's private classes to give parents a view of how students are engaged over the course of an academic year.
The Private Eye's first stop was at one of our Primary 2 private classes in the East.
Ms Nura, a pioneer teacher with The Open Primary, was in the middle of a shared reading as part of the English Language curriculum, reading Uncle Al (a Key Links Book), while taking advantage of cool surroundings adjacent to their class centre.
The shared reading programme, analogous to MOE's STELLAR, allows for exploration of a theme through a well illustrated and level based book (reader) or a dedicated text.
The use of Key Links readers complements the core worksheet on the theme or language use aspects from the worksheet. Classes cover four themes in each of the four terms. Each themed worksheet also starts with a shared reading passage on the theme from which students discover new vocabulary while sharing their own related experiences. From the reading passage and discussion the students will practice application of targeted grammar concepts, with the usage context having been established through the shared reading.

Hi Parents
Are you awaiting for P2 to P4 AEIS results for your child?
In case your child is not offered a 2019 MOE school place we encourage you to consider The Open Primary class centres in SERANGOON and PASIR RIS for 2019 P2 to P4, and in BRADDELL for P2.
We offer a structured Singapore curriculum based programme in a low student to teacher ratio environment at fees comparable to MOE schools.
The core subjects of English, Maths and Science are mixed with critical thinking games, physical education, joint class sessions, learning journeys and optional Drama-Coding-Music enrichment programmes.
We also have a Family Day and a Sports Day combining our class centres from across Singapore. Making for a well rounded educational and developmental experience for children.
We invite you to have a chat and a centre visit.
