๐Ÿ”” Sound Swap Magic!

What happens when you change just ONE sound in a word?

๐Ÿ‘‰ cat becomes hat
๐Ÿ‘‰ hat becomes bat

Just like that, kids discover how words work โ€” one sound at a time.

This simple activity builds strong reading foundations by helping children:
๐Ÿ”ค Recognise sound patterns
๐Ÿง  Blend sounds with confidence
๐Ÿ“š Read new words with ease

Small changes can spark BIG learning moments ๐ŸŒˆ

Save this for your next phonics activity with your child ๐Ÿ’›

โ€œMy child is struggling to readโ€ฆโ€ โ€” if youโ€™re a parent in Singapore, youโ€™re definitely not alone.

Many parents are already doing their best โ€” reading daily, using flashcards, even enrichment classes โ€” but progress still feels slow.

Hereโ€™s the key ๐Ÿ‘‡
Focusing only on letter names (A, B, C) isnโ€™t enough.
Children need to learn letter sounds to read confidently.

โœจ When kids can blend sounds (e.g. kuhโ€“ahโ€“t โ†’ cat), reading starts to click.

Save this and try it at home today โ€” small shift, big results โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜Ÿ โ€œMy child canโ€™t read yetโ€ฆ is that normal?โ€

If that thought has crossed your mind โ€” youโ€™re not alone. And more importantlyโ€ฆ your child might be exactly where they need to be โค๏ธ

Reading isnโ€™t something children โ€œjust pick upโ€ overnight. Itโ€™s a journey that builds step by step:

๐ŸŒฑ Nursery โ€” listening, recognising, enjoying stories
๐Ÿ”ค K1 โ€” learning sounds & blending simple words
๐Ÿ“– K2 โ€” reading with understanding
๐ŸŽ“ Primary โ€” reading to learn

Every stage matters. When the foundation is strong, confidence follows.

โš ๏ธ The truth? Most reading struggles happen when earlier stages are rushed or skipped.

โœจ The good news: itโ€™s never too late to support your child the right way.

Not sure if your child is on track?

๐Ÿ‘พ FEED THE MONSTER โ€” BL BLEND FUN!

Can your child spot the correct BL blend words? ๐Ÿ‘€
Words like blue, black, block help build strong decoding skills โ€” the foundation of confident reading!

But hereโ€™s the twistโ€ฆ ๐Ÿค”
Not all words belong! Can your child tell which one doesnโ€™t fit?

๐ŸŽฏ This simple game trains your child to:
โœ… Recognise blends faster
โœ… Decode unfamiliar words
โœ… Build real reading confidence (not memorising!)

๐Ÿ’ฌ Comment below: Which word should the monster eat first?

โ€œIs my child falling behind?โ€
Itโ€™s one of the most common worries parents have.

But hereโ€™s the truth ๐Ÿ‘‡
Every child learns at a different pace ๐Ÿ’›

Instead of guessing, use this simple guide:
โœ” Age 4 โ€“ Letter sounds
โœ” Age 5 โ€“ Blending simple words
โœ” Age 6 โ€“ Blends & digraphs
โœ” Age 7 โ€“ Reading with fluency

This isnโ€™t about pressure.
Itโ€™s about clarity, confidence, and knowing how to support your child better.

If youโ€™re unsure where your child stands,
weโ€™re here to help you figure it out step by step.

๐ŸŽฎโœจ REAL or SILLY? Letโ€™s play!

Can your child tell the difference between a real word and a made-up one? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿ‘‰ splat
๐Ÿ‘‰ frip

Even โ€œsillyโ€ words are powerful โ€” because strong readers donโ€™t memoriseโ€ฆ they decode. ๐Ÿ”ค๐Ÿ’ก

If your child can sound out both, it means their phonics skills are working exactly as they should! ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿ’ฌ Comment below: How many did your child get right?

Learning to read isnโ€™t about memorising words โ€” itโ€™s about building the skills to read any word. ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ Phonics Detective โ€“ Hari Raya Edition ๐ŸŒ™

Can your little detective solve todayโ€™s sound mystery?

The word is:
_ _ O N

Look at the clues and see if your child can guess the word before the reveal! ๐Ÿ”Ž

These small phonics games help children notice how letters connect to sounds, which is an important step in learning to read.

Todayโ€™s sound focus: /m/
mmmโ€“moon

Simple sound awareness builds confident readers over time.

๐Ÿ‘‡ Did your child solve the mystery before the reveal?
Comment โ€œSolved!โ€ if they got it right!

If your 6-year-old is still guessing words, this is important.

Many children donโ€™t struggle because they โ€œcanโ€™t read.โ€
They struggle because they were never taught to blend properly.

Blending is the ability to connect sounds smoothly:
sh โ€“ i โ€“ p โ†’ ship
gr โ€“ i โ€“ n โ†’ grin

When blending is weak, children:

Guess from the first letter

Rely on pictures

Memorise instead of decode

Avoid unfamiliar words

Try the quick test in this post.

If your child hesitates on ship, grin, stop, blending may need strengthening.

Strong blending =
โœ” Better fluency
โœ” Less frustration
โœ” More confidence in classrooms

Comment โ€œBLENDโ€ if your child read all 3 correctly โ€” or if youโ€™d like help strengthening this skill.

Many parents believe that once their child can sing the ๐—”๐—•๐—– ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ด, theyโ€™re already ready to read. But is that really how reading works?

In phonics, children learn that each letter represents a ๐˜€๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ.
When they understand the sounds and how to blend them together, reading starts to make sense.

For example:
๐Ÿ”ค ๐—ฐ says /k/
๐Ÿ”ค ๐—ฎ says /a/
๐Ÿ”ค ๐˜ says /t/

Blend the sounds together:
๐Ÿ‘‰ /k/ + /a/ + /t/ = ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐˜

Thatโ€™s the foundation of phonics โ€” helping children connect ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐˜€๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐˜€ so they can confidently read new words on their own. ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

If your child can sing the ABC song, thatโ€™s a great start!
But the next step is learning
