“We are the dedicated team players who take care of every aspect of a guest’s experience,” says Atlas Chee, Valedictorian from Republic Polytechnic School of Hospitality - RP SOH. “We don’t do this simply because it’s our job, but because it’s a calling — a passion to serve, a purpose to strive for, and a promise to show up with a smile every day.”

Drawn to RP’s applied learning approach and the chance to build his confidence in teamwork and presentations, the Zhonghua Secondary School alumnus enrolled in the Diploma in Hotel Hospitality Management (now Hotel & Leisure Management) through the Republic Polytechnic Polytechnic Foundation Programme- RP PFP.

During his year-long internship at Marina Bay Sands under the Talent Advancement Programme, Atlas gained hands-on experience across front- and back-of-house operations at RISE Restaurant and CUT by Wolfgang Puck. His commitment to service excellence and drive to constantly improve his craft earned recognition from guests and industry mentors alike.

Another defining chapter of his journey came at the POL-ITE Games, where Atlas and his RP Dragon Boat teammates clinched Bronze. With no prior experience in the sport, he committed himself to months of intensive training to earn a spot on the team and ultimately stand on the podium.

Overseas experiences also played a key role in shaping his outlook. Through learning trips to Malaysia, Taiwan and Bali, Atlas was exposed to different hospitality practices and cultures. Among them, the Bali immersion stood out as the most meaningful — living and learning alongside his diploma mates not only deepened his cultural awareness, but also strengthened his independence and sense of purpose.

At SOH Club, Atlas further grew as a leader, organising service-learning projects that engaged and connected with seniors in the community. After seeing the impact of the first run, he went on to initiate two more editions during festive periods like Christmas and Chinese New Year.

His mantra: give more than what’s expected, every single time.

It’s a wrap on a meaningful day at the Sea Sports Heritage Carnival at The Kallang.

A total of 20 Republic Polytechnic students, from PFP to Year 2 came together to support this community event, which featured a panel discussion on 200 years of sea sports heritage, interactive water games, and dragon boating activities alongside athletes from the Special Olympics.

The experience provided students with valuable opportunities to engage with the community, appreciate Singapore’s maritime sporting heritage, and contribute meaningfully through service and collaboration.

This is what it means to learn, lead, and give back.
