Tamil Language Fortnight 2026: Our Roots, Our Stories ✨
For two exciting weeks, our students experienced Tamil beyond the classroom—engaging their hands, hearts and voices through meaningful cultural experiences.
🎨 Traditional Games & Crafts
Students immersed themselves in a variety of hands-on activities, including kolam drawing, vilaku (lamp) painting, Madhubani lotus leaf painting, and many other traditional crafts.
They also had the opportunity to play traditional Tamil games such as Kula Kula Muthirikai, Oru Kodam Thanni Ootri, Pallanguzhi, and Paramapadham. These lively sessions were filled with laughter, teamwork and joyful learning as students discovered the rich heritage behind these timeless games.
🌿 Cultural Discovery
Students explored the many uses of the banana tree, learning how its leaves, trunk and fruit play important roles in everyday life and cultural traditions. They also discovered the fascinating world of spices, exploring their significance in cooking, health and daily living.
As part of our Family Bonding activity, students partnered with their families to prepare a dish using the spices they had learnt about, bringing classroom learning into their homes. These authentic experiences also enriched their Tamil vocabulary in meaningful and memorable ways.
📖 Celebrating Tamil Literature
The fortnight also honoured the rich legacy of Tamil literature. Through storytelling, drama and interactive activities, students were introduced to the timeless wisdom of Avvaiyar, Subramania Bharathiyar and Thiruvalluvar. These engaging experiences helped them appreciate the enduring values, life lessons and cultural significance found in the works of these celebrated literary icons.
