The creative force behind Kathak Pravāha Series 6, Guru Bhupali Deshpande-Kulkarni envisioned a production that pushes beyond familiar Kathak narratives — exploring the symbolism of six, the powerful story of Lord Kartikeya, and the rhythmic world of taals around multiples of 6.
From concept to choreography, she has shaped every layer of Shashtha Sarga, bringing together tradition, imagination and rhythm to create a work that is distinctly Kathak Pravāha.

She started her Kathak training at the age of 7 under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Sadhana Naphade. Although a qualified Statistician with a master’s degree, Bhupali’s true passion lay in the realm of classical dance. She holds a Master of Performing Arts in Kathak from Dr. D. Y. Patil School of Liberal Arts. She has also completed her Visharad and Alankaar from the prestigious Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai under the guidance of Dr. Sadhana Naphade.

A registered teacher with the Mandal, Bhupali is a trained dancer in the styles of both the Lucknow and Jaipur Kathak Gharanas. She was mentored by revered legends in the field, including Late Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Rajendra Gangani, Smt. Shama Bhate, Smt. Rekha Nadgauda, Smt. Manisha Sathe, Late Guru Munna ji Shukla, Dr. Malabika Mitra, Late Smt. Kumudini Lakhia and more.

Bhupali was awarded the prestigious Spic-Macay ‘Gurukul Scholarship’. She was trained under the world-renowned maestro, Late Pt. Birju Maharaj ji. Bhupali has secured accolades in classical dance at both the district and state-level in India. Bhupali has delivered lectures on the ‘Aesthetics of Dance’ to ATD (Art Teacher Diploma) students at Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur. She has also nurtured the talent of students at Bal Jagat, A project of Deendayal Shodh Sansthan, Nagpur and served as a Dance Instructor at Ira Int. Sch.

In 2010, she continued her work as a Kathak teacher at the Sruthilaya School of Fine Arts (Singapore). Her dedication to the art form culminated in the founding of Kalapravaha – Home of Performing Arts. One of her key initiatives is Kathak Pravaha launched in 2015.

Kathak led her to learn from and be mentored by revered legends in the field, including

Smt. Manisha Sathe, Late Guru Munna ji Shukla, Dr. Malabika Mitra, Late Smt. Kumudini

engagements.

In 2010, Bhupali relocated to Singapore, where she continued her work as a Kathak
teacher at the Sruthilaya School of Fine Arts.

Her dedication to the art form culminated in
the founding of Kalapravaha – Home of Performing Arts.

Currently, Bhupali holds the position of Kathak Instructor at Kalapravaha. One of her key initiatives is Kathak Pravaha, a flagship dance production series launched in 2015, which showcases the storytelling richness of Kathak while making it accessible to diverse audiences.
Bhupali’s artistic journey has seen her grace in many prestigious dance and music festivals
across India, Malaysia, and Singapore. These include, Singapore Heritage Festivals, SIFAS
festival of music and dance, Shantanjali Festival of Arts, Kathak Pravaha, Singapore
Mediacorp’s TV program “Enna Nadakkuthu'' (on Vasantham channel), Sruthilaya Arts
festival ( Johor Bahru, Malaysia), Indian Heritage Centre, Sadhana - a tribute to Dr. Sovana Narayan and many more.
