At Wharton Montessori Preschool, children explore mathematics through the Montessori Golden Beads, a beautiful hands-on material that brings abstract concepts to life.
Through the manipulation of units, tens, hundreds, and thousands, children develop a concrete understanding of place value and the decimal system. By seeing, touching, and working with the quantities themselves, they build strong number sense, logical thinking, and confidence in mathematics.
This purposeful journey from concrete materials to abstract thinking lays a solid foundation for future mathematical learning, allowing children to truly understand numbers rather than simply memorise them. ✨🔢

Parents often ask: “How much screen time is actually okay for my child?”
In Singapore, the approach is not just about limiting time, but using screens intentionally.
In preschools, guidelines from the Early Childhood Development Agency emphasise that screens should be used only for teaching and learning, not as entertainment.
At home, the Ministry of Health recommends less than 1 hour per day for young children, with high-quality content and adult guidance.
Ultimately, healthy screen habits come down to a few key principles:
• Prioritising connection and interaction
• Choosing age-appropriate, meaningful content
• Using screens as a tool, not a default
When used thoughtfully, screens can support learning. But in the early years, nothing replaces hands-on experiences, movement, and real human interaction.
If you’d like to better understand how to create a balanced, screen-aware environment for your child, we’d love to share more.
📍 Book a school tour to observe our classrooms and speak with our teachers about how we approach screen use and learning.

Some of the most meaningful learning happens when children are encouraged to explore, experience, and actively take part in the journey. This beautifully reflects the Montessori philosophy we embrace at Wharton Preschool, where children are empowered to discover, create, and learn through hands-on experiences and meaningful involvement 🌱
And while our little ones are learning something new every day, we adults are learning too: patience, understanding, and the beauty of slowing down to see the world through a child’s perspective 💛

From tiny hands to the biggest hugs 💕
Our Mother’s Day celebration at Wharton Preschool was filled with sweet performances, arts & crafts, yummy treats, hugs, kisses, and so much love.
And with today being 5️⃣2️⃣0️⃣ : the Chinese way of saying “I love you” (我爱你) , it feels like the perfect reminder that love is truly in the little moments 🫶
“To the world, you are a mother. To your child, you are the world.” ✨
Happy Mother’s Day to all our amazing mummies 💖

In this activity, children work with number cards and counters of different shapes to practise counting and matching quantities in meaningful ways. As they engage with the materials, they also explore basic geometric shapes - strengthening their ability to recognise patterns, make comparisons, and build a clear connection between numbers and quantity through a hands-on experience.
Rooted in Montessori principles, this activity encourages:
✨ Concrete to abstract learning – Children first experience numbers through tangible objects before moving towards abstract understanding
✨ Hands-on exploration – Learning happens through active engagement, allowing children to construct their own understanding
✨ Order and pattern recognition – Matching numbers with shapes helps children internalise sequence and early mathematical relationships
This is a combined Montessori-inspired activity designed to extend children’s learning towards more advanced concepts, while still keeping the experience engaging, purposeful, and child-led.

Happy Labour Day from all of us at Wharton Preschool 🌼
Today, we take a moment to appreciate the many hands and hearts that shape our children’s world each day. Within our preschool, we are deeply grateful to our dedicated teachers, nurturing principals, caring cooks, hardworking cleaners, and dependable school bus drivers — each of you plays an important role in creating a safe, loving, and enriching environment for our little ones.
Beyond our school, we also extend our heartfelt thanks to all workers in every field — those who build, care, serve, protect, and support our communities in ways big and small. Your efforts, often unseen, make a meaningful difference in our everyday lives.
