From a humble fishing village, through industrialisation and pollution, to revitalisation and renewal, the River becomes a mirror of Singapore’s story—of struggle, resilience, transformation and hope.
Through the grace of Odissi-based movement and the expressive power of poems, we invite you to pause, remember, reflect and reconnect with the river that has shaped our island.

ETHOS (Exploring the Odissi Spirit) is a dance collective of Odissi dancers in Singapore Ethos was co-founded by Soumee De and Manishikha Baul in 2014.
Ethos is a Greek word meaning "character" that is used to describe the guiding beliefs or ideals that characterize a community, nation, or ideology; and the balance between caution, and passion. The Greeks also used this word to refer to the power of music to influence emotions, behaviors, and even morals. Honoured to be a part of an evening of Odissi at the Odissi Festival 2026 hosted by
led by Guru Soumee De opened with Megh Pallavi — a lyrical and evocative pure dance composition inspired by the mood of monsoon clouds. This was followed by Dasavatar, based on the celebrated Ashtapadi from the Gita Govinda by poet Jayadeva. The piece portrays the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu and remains one of the most iconic compositions in the Odissi repertoire — weaving together devotion, poetry, rhythm, and dramatic storytelling.
