Our founder, Jerry, together with Zhang Ning Laoshi, one of EduGrove’s teachers, joined Made in SG to share how EduGrove started — and why we focus on helping students express themselves in Mandarin, not just memorise.

He also reflected on his own school days — how years of rote learning didn’t help him speak with confidence, and how much of what he memorised was quickly forgotten.

It’s a challenge many students still face today: knowing the words, but struggling to use them.

That insight continues to shape how we teach today — through interactive activities like word games and improvisational drama, helping students express themselves confidently while building communication and critical thinking skills 💬

Between ages 1–3, a child’s brain is developing rapidly, with neural connections strengthening through meaningful interaction. During this stage, children are especially receptive to language, absorbing sounds, vocabulary, and speech patterns naturally through everyday experiences. Early exposure doesn’t mean drilling; it means songs, movement, stories, and guided play with a trusted adult.

Our Mandarin PlayGrove programme is designed for exactly that, offering toddlers and their parents or caregivers a structured, nurturing space to explore, communicate, and build strong foundational language skills together.

As we kick off a brand-new academic year, we’re excited to introduce the latest batch of teachers joining the EduGrove family 🎉

Each of them comes with strong credentials, years of teaching experience, and a genuine passion for nurturing young minds. They are already accomplished educators in their own right—but at EduGrove, we believe that great teaching can always be made even better.

That’s why every teacher who joins us goes through EduGrove’s specialised, months-long training programme. During this journey, they don’t just learn what to teach, but how to teach the EduGrove way—through engaging lessons, purposeful play, and our signature role-playing and improvisational drama approach that brings language to life.

This training equips our teachers to help students build confidence in speaking, creativity in thinking, and the ability to express ideas naturally and think on their feet—skills that go far beyond the classroom.
