Dear all UTM postgraduate students,

School of Graduate Studies (SPS) UTM, in collaboration with the Counselling Centre, UTM, will organize a Cross-Cultural Seminar.
This one day seminar is designed to introduce issues of cross-cultural communication among staff and students. Skills in cross-cultural communication are essential in order to minimize problems and misunderstandings that arise from cultural differences. This seminar will encourage participants to focus on their communication style and how it is affected by culture because sometimes what is said is not what is meant.
The main objectives of this seminar are:
1. To understand how culture affects communication
2. To identify barriers to effective cross-cultural communication
3. To use communication skills to engage and interact successfully with students from different countries.
Admission is free & meals will be provided!

UTM Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition

What is “Three Minute Thesis”?
Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland. The exercise challenges PhD students to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance in just three minutes. 3MT develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of research students’ capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

When is it?
UTM 3MT (Faculty's Level) Competition will be held during these dates :- 21 February 2016 - 20 March 2016. The exact date will be announced by PGSS from each Faculty.

Who is eligible?
Active UTM PhD candidates who have successfully passed their first stage evaluation (First Assessment) are eligible to participate in 3MT competitions at all levels (Faculty's and UTM's), including the Trans-Tasman 3MT competition. Graduates are not eligible.

POSTGRADUATE VIDEO CONTEST "Life "
Use your creativity and come out with a 5 minute-video on post graduate’s life in UTM.
Requirements :-
1. Open to all active UTM postgraduate students.
2. Group project (max 4 person).
3. Participants must register at http://cict.utm.my/video-contest-registration-form/ BY 31 JANUARY 2016 before participating.
4. Participants need to use the facilities at the Student’s Multimedia Authoring Lab (SMAL), CICT, UTMJB.

Dear all UTM Postgraduate Students,

Post Graduate Student Society (PGSS) UTM with collaboration of the School of Graduate Studies (SPS), Kolej Dato' Onn Jaafar (KDOJ) and Kolej Datin Seri Endon (KDSE) will organize a MALAYSIAN TRADITIONAL GAMES CARNIVAL 2015.

This sport's carnival will be conducted as in the following details:

Date : 7 March 2015 (Saturday)
Time : 8.30 am - 5.00pm
Venue: Block G07 & G08, Kolej Rahman Putra, UTM Johor Bahru

The main objective of the carnival is to introduce Malaysian traditional games to international students as well as to rejuvinate Malaysian students to their heritage.

Carnival details:
i. Traditional Games Booth Demonstration: Galah Panjang, Bowling Kelapa, Guli, Gasing, Congkak, Batu Seremban, Teng-teng, Ceper

ii. Traditional Games Tournaments:
a. Name of the game : Galah Panjang
Category : Team (4 persons for each team)
Tournament System : Knockout (20 minutes for each match)
Venue : Basketball Court, Kolej Rahman Putra, UTM

b. Name of the game : Bowling Kelapa
Category : Team (4 persons for each team)
Tournament System : Points Accumulated by Team (3 times throw for each person in one team)
Venue : G08 Car Park, Kolej Rahman Putra, UTM

** The tournaments will be from 9.00am - 1.00pm.
