Ahzaan, who graduated from RSS last year, faced not one but two significant challenges throughout his schooling years โ€” psoriasis, an autoimmune skin condition that caused persistent itching and disrupted his concentration, and dyslexia, which made reading and writing a daily struggle. Yet, he refused to let these obstacles define him. ๐Ÿ’ช

Most remarkably, Ahzaan transformed himself from a D7 to an A1 in Mathematics during his GCE โ€˜Nโ€™ Level examinations in 2025 โ€” a testament to his grit, determination, and love for the subject. โ€œI fell in love with Mathematics when I realised it taught me how to solve problems,โ€ he shared. With the support of the Mendaki Achievement Programme (MAP), he persevered and excelled. ๐ŸŒŸ

His hard work was recognised at the SHG Joint Tuition Awards ceremony on 29 August, during which he was among 16 students to receive the prestigious Overall Best Student Award, presented by Senior Minister of State Dr Janil Puthucheary.

Ahzaan, your story is a powerful reminder that resilience can overcome any challenge. We are so proud of you, and we have no doubt that you will continue to soar! ๐Ÿ’ชโค๏ธ

Our school came together on Friday to celebrate National Day with joy and pride โ€” hereโ€™s how we marked the occasion! ๐Ÿ“ธ

The morning began with our National Day Parade Observance Ceremony, where our uniformed groups presented a march-past led by our guard-of-honour contingent, with our school band delivering rousing performances to set the mood! ๐ŸŽถ

In class, students explored the significance of the 60th anniversary of our National Pledge, reflecting on what it means to be Singaporean and renewing our collective commitment to our nation. ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

A proud highlight came as our Guest-of-Honour, Ms Mariam Jaafar, Grassroots Adviser to Sembawang GRC GROs (Woodlands), unveiled our SG61 Collective Dream Mural in the hall โ€” it was a vibrant testament to our schoolโ€™s collective dream for Singapore! ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

The energy then soared as our National Day concert kicked off, including a lively quiz competition starring our teachers! A medley of beloved National Day songs led by renowned local singer-songwriters Jack & Rai, as well as our very own school choir, filled the hall with good cheer, gratitude, and hope as we looked ahead to the next chapter of our Singapore story. ๐ŸŽ‰โค๏ธ

Happy National Day, everyone โ€” and happy birthday, Singapore! ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

This morning, we were honoured to welcome our Grassroots Adviser to Sembawang GRC GROs (Woodlands), Ms Mariam Jaafar, on her first visit to Riverside Secondary School โ€” and what a special occasion it was to have her join us for our National Day celebrations! ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

Together with our School Advisory Committee, alumni, parent support group, and guests, Ms Mariam joined our students in the library for a tile-writing activity โ€” a hands-on way to leave a lasting mark on our school community. ๐ŸŽจ

The highlight of the morning was the unveiling of our SG61 Collective Dream Mural at the hall during the start of our concert โ€” it was a colourful and meaningful mosaic capturing the hopes, dreams, and spirit of our Riversidians as we marked Singaporeโ€™s 61st birthday together. ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

As Ms Mariam reminded us, we all have a part to play as a united community โ€” and today was a wonderful reflection of our shared purpose and identity. We look forward to fostering even greater community spirit in our Woodlands neighbourhood, and contributing to a stronger, more vibrant Singapore! ๐ŸŽ‰โค๏ธ

Last Thursday, we launched our inaugural Riverside Fireside Chat: a new dialogue series connecting students with industry professionals to broaden their worldviews, gain industry insights and learn from real-world experiences. ๐Ÿ’ฌ๐ŸŒ

For our first session, we were privileged to welcome School Advisory Committee member Ms Amina Hu, Director of Logeco Asia, and Mr Jeong Woo Seong, who has more than a decade of experience in freight forwarding. Through their engaging sharing session, students gained valuable insights into how global supply chains operate and how interconnected our world is. Students also learnt about how supply chain disruptions can have far-reaching effects: from transportation costs and the prices of everyday goods to the overall cost of living in Singapore. ๐Ÿšขโœˆ๏ธ๐Ÿ“ฆ

The session encouraged our students to think critically about the global economy and how events around the world can affect our daily lives. A big thank-you to Ms Amina Hu and Mr Jeong Woo Seong for inspiring our students through their expertise and experiences! We look forward to many more meaningful conversations during future Riverside Fireside Chats! ๐Ÿ‘โœจ

After leaving ITE, Oliver chose to start again. He retook his O-Levels as a private candidate before graduating from Republic Polytechnic with a 4.0 GPA, a Diploma with Merit, and multiple academic awards.

His perseverance led him to the National University of Singapore, where he was awarded the NUS Merit Scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours with Highest Distinction). During his time at NUS, he completed internships with the Singapore Tourism Board, Unilever and LinkedIn, participated in a semester-long exchange at Bayes Business School in London, and has begun his career as a Marketing Management Trainee at Lโ€™Orรฉal.

Reflecting on his experiences, Oliver shares:

From 2 to 6 June 2026, 30 students and 5 teachers embarked on an enriching Overseas Learning Journey to Hong Kong! Through a school immersion programme at Kwok Yat Wai College, our students gained first-hand insights into the life of Hong Kong students by attending lessons and interacting with their peers, while exploring key themes of education, culture and heritage, and innovation along the way.

Beyond the classroom, students visited the Hong Kong Science & Technology Park Experience Centre to learn about innovation and technology, and experienced Hong Kongโ€™s culinary heritage by trying their hand at making traditional dim sum. They also explored the modern side of Hong Kong through visits to the Central Business District, Victoria Peak, and 1881 Heritage.

To appreciate Hong Kongโ€™s rich history and diverse communities, students visited Sham Shui Po โ€” one of Hong Kongโ€™s oldest neighbourhoods โ€” and participated in a meaningful learning session with the Society for Community Organisation (SoCO) to better understand local housing conditions. They also explored Tai O Fishing Village to learn about its stilt-house fishing community and the traditional craft of beancurd-making. Travelling on the iconic Hong Kong Tramways and Star Ferry rounded off an immersive experience of everyday life in the city.

Through this overseas learning journey, our Riversidians developed a deeper appreciation of how culture, heritage, innovation, and urban development shape a cityโ€™s identity in an interconnected world. ๐Ÿ™๏ธ๐Ÿซ•๐Ÿš‹

Day 2 in Shenzhen ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณโœจ

From conducting geographical investigations at Futian Nongpi Local Market to exploring Shenzhenโ€™s remarkable transformation at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning and the Reform and Opening-up Exhibition, our students gained valuable insights into how a small fishing village evolved into a global hub of innovation and development in just 45 years.

We spent the day immersing ourselves in Shenzhenโ€™s education and culture through visits to Shenzhen Nanshan Pingshan School and Shenzhen Xixiang Middle School, where we exchanged ideas and experienced school life firsthand. The students were super friendly and welcomed us warmly, sharing more about their school life, lessons and daily routines. To end the day, we headed to the lively Dongmen Street, where we explored the bustling shops, tried local snacks and enjoyed the vibrant night atmosphere. It was the perfect way to wrap up an unforgettable day filled with learning, laughter and new friendships!

Day 4 in Shenzhen

Our students continued their journey into Shenzhenโ€™s world of innovation with a visit to the Shenzhen Science and Technology Museum, where they explored interactive exhibits on artificial intelligence, robotics, aerospace, biotechnology and future technologies.

At the DJI Display & Experience Centre, they learnt more about the evolution of drones, from personal photography tools to commercial solutions used in areas such as logistics, rescue operations, agriculture and even high-altitude delivery on Mount Everest.

We ended the day at Bijiashan Park, where students saw how technology is becoming part of everyday city life, from smart fitness equipment with data tracking to drone food delivery services. It was a meaningful day of seeing how science and technology can move beyond the classroom and into real-world solutions that shape the way we live, work and play.

Day 5 in Shenzhen

Our students began their day with an exciting visit to Baidu Apollo, where many of them experienced riding in a driverless car for the very first time. This eye-opening experience gave them a firsthand look at how artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technology are shaping

From classrooms to corridors, Riverside came alive with colour, culture, and community! Our students took part in meaningful level-based cultural activities โ€” Sec 1s tried their hand at Chinese calligraphy, Sec 2s crafted intricate Wayang Kulit shadow puppets, Sec 3s created vibrant Kolam Puli paintings, and Sec 4s bonded over traditional games from our diverse cultures. ๐ŸŽจ

During recess, the festivities continued with booths organised by our Parent Support Group, bringing even more warmth and community spirit to the day. Several students and staff alike also dressed in ethnic attire, rendering the occasion all the more special and heartfelt. ๐Ÿ•ด๏ธ๐Ÿฅป๐Ÿ‘—

Together, we reaffirm our commitment to racial and religious harmony โ€” weaving our shared heritage into a tapestry that is uniquely and proudly Singaporean. ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌโœจ
