Most of us would never understand how much difficulties people with dyslexia go through
Our students got to understand what a person with dyslexia may go through when they are reading
Over the years, we have helped our students improve and excel! Our first testimonial video will be out soon! Like us on FB and follow us on IG!
Watch it and hear from the parents and students themselves! Established in 2005, My Tuition Place started out with just 3 siblings as the tutors, hence the slogan βFamily of Teachersβ. However, with the emphasis on quality education, engagement of students and positive word of mouth from parents and students, My Tuition Place has grown year after year. How much can a person change?
Let us tell you another storyβ¦
His mom brought him near the end of his S1 year.
An initial meetup session was arranged to analyse his strengths and weaknesses. πππ
βStrong visual learner, quick brain but lacks focus and attentionβ
The first year of his tuition was not a walk in the park.
It was a stressful year for all. His parents, him and us.
With his S2 exams nearing, we were all looking for a magic pill for him.πͺπͺπͺβ‘οΈβ‘οΈβ‘οΈ
The usual fairy tale ending for tuition centres is one that the student scores brilliantly for their exams and we all feel happy.
That was not the case.
He barely made it to S3.
To be honest, we were dreading the amount of pushing we had to do for S3.
And with an increase in depth of knowledge needed for academics, it seemed like mission impossible.πππ
Worse still, Covid struck and all physical lessons stopped. We could not catch a break it seemed.π€¦π»ββοΈ
Then it happened. Around April or May of 2020.β‘οΈβ‘οΈβ‘οΈπ‘π‘π‘
Virtual lessons are different. In a sense where teachers can see the facial expressions of the students clearly. It was one such lesson that we saw that he was indeed a changed person.
The lesson was algebra. And for those that know it, it is not the most interesting topic on Earth.
But with his eyes almost closing, we asked βDo you want a break?β The reply was βWhy not i go and wash my face? I need to get this right. I am weak in it.βπππ
And in that reply, we saw the determination and effort he would put in, just to get better.πͺπ»πͺπ»πͺπ»
His excuses for not doing work changed to βI donβt know if I can do it but I will tryβ
He started being responsible for his punctuality and homework. He was even willing to wake up early on Sundays to start lessons at 9 am, sometimes even at 8.β°β°β°
There were even times when he was sitting on the steps, waiting for us to open the door.
He is not the perfect student yet. Nobody is.
But if you want to know how much a person can changeβ¦
This story can tell you. ππ»ππ»ππ»
To all mothers who toil endlessly and worry day and night about the family!
Happy Motherβs Day! π

What do you see in this picture?
A young man who is all smiles and happily doing his work?
But do you know his storyβ
Let us tell youβ¦
It started with a WhatsApp messageβ¦ β Hi thereβ¦ I am keen to know more about physics tuition. Please reply me the soonest. Thanks!β
It was 16th Aug 2020. Slightly less than 3 months before the O Levels Exams.
We arranged a trial and it was an unforgettable lesson.
Usually for the first lesson, the student comes in with just paper and pens. For some, we would be lucky to have a few half done exam papers that we can pin point the weakness of the student.
Not this young man. He came with 6-8 exam papers all done up and even with the questions that he did not understand all highlighted. π€―
2 hours flew by in a flash. β‘οΈ
His work rate astounded us. We had to ask him to slow down to avoid burnout. He was completing papers at Olympian rates.
Curious why he worked so hard, we asked him about it. And his reason was a very simple one.
A reason that all of us will understand.
He did not do so well for his PSLE. He spent his lower secondary years just using his intelligence to scrap by.
He woke up during his S3 year and started to work harder. He wanted to use the O Levels to prove to others and himself that he was capable of much better results.
And that was his reason.
By chance, his previous tutor could not continue teaching him. That was when the WhatsApp message came.
He got into a JC after his O Levels and is still with us for JC Physics and Math. Every lesson he attends, he brings that attitude, that hunger that we should all learn from. ππ»ββοΈ
Do not let the warm smile and cute Elmo tee shirt mislead you. Beneath all that, lies a driven young man whose determination puts us to shame.π¦
Now you know his story, what would you do?
