📣 Dr Keri McCrickerd appointed Executive Director of CHILD
Dr McCrickerd has taken on the helm at the Centre for Holistic Initiatives for Learning and Development (CHILD), effective 1 April 2026. Dr McCrickerd is a research psychologist and Principal Scientist at the Institute for Human Development and Potential (A*STAR IHDP). Since joining CHILD in April 2024, she has led the growth of the Centre’s research team and developed programmes for caregivers and families across Singapore.
She succeeds Prof Nick Sevdalis, who served as Executive Director from October 2023 to March 2026 and advanced the Centre’s strategy, partnerships, and outreach. He continues as Academic Director of the Centre for Behavioural and Implementation Science Interventions (BISI) at NUS Medicine.

🌏 NUS Medicine is proud to launch “A Multi-Stakeholder Approach for Urban Heat Resilience: Singapore's Experience”, launched today at the World Cities Summit 2026 CLC-IPCC Senior Leaders Roundtable on the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Cities.
Co-written by the Global Heat Health Information Network Southeast Asia Hub with National Environment Agency, Ministry of Manpower, and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, to support a more heat-resilient region, the report documents Singapore’s approach to urban heat resilience, from whole-of-government coordination and science-policy partnerships to industry collaboration and community empowerment. While there is no one-size-fits-all pathway, Singapore’s experience offers an approach shaped by its unique context.

🌟 NUS Medicine established the Aileen Wee Professorship in Liver Diseases 🔬
On 11 June, announced the Aileen Wee Professorship in Liver Diseases, honouring Emeritus Professor Aileen Wee, Department of Pathology at NUS Medicine and the National University Hospital - NUH, for her contributions to pathology, research and medical education over a distinguished career spanning five decades.
An internationally recognised authority in hepatobiliary pathology, Prof Wee has shaped clinical practice, research and medical education through her pioneering work in liver cytopathology, transplantation pathology and chronic liver disease.
She shared, "As a multidisciplinary approach is the way to go, this professorship is not confined to any discipline, and I hope it will benefit scholars who are actively pursuing any aspect of research to uncover some of the many unknowns in the diseased liver for the betterment of patients."

For Year 4 student Mehal, her Paediatrics elective at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital was an opportunity to explore a specialty she is passionate about while gaining hands-on clinical experience through clinics, ward rounds and supervised patient care.
A key part of the NUS Medicine curriculum, electives encourage students to pursue areas of interest, take ownership of their learning, and broaden their perspectives through real-world clinical exposure.

Singapore will take centre stage in global neuroscience from 26 to 30 April 2027, as NUS hosts the EMBO Global Workshop on Cellular and Systems Mechanisms of Memory in Health and Disease.
✨Led by Assoc Prof Sreedharan Sajikumar from the Department of Physiology at NUS Medicine, the workshop is co-hosted by the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme (TRP), Neuroscience TRP and the Life Sciences Institute Neurobiology Programme, bringing together leading experts to advance research on memory, brain function, and neurological health.

👨🏽🔬 A distinguished physician-scientist with over two decades of experience in neurodegenerative research, Prof Patani has made significant contributions to the field, particularly through his work using human iPSC models to advance understanding of neurological diseases. His achievements have been recognised with numerous accolades, including the Lister Research Prize and the Goulstonian Lectureship, and most recently, his election as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2025.
