We’ve been pretty busy rounding up 2019 engagements and finally had the time to settle in some post 2019 reflections.
On 25th July 2019, we were invited by Learning Vision, to share about recycling.
We touched on 2 key pointers
1. Why should we recycle?
2. How to recycle right?
Here at Kid-back Plastic, each engagement session is different as we try very much to start with our children’s knowledge before we work forward, building on their existing contextual understanding.
In this case, they knew what the blue bins are for. So we emphasised the right steps to recycling which are
1. Reading labels
2. Washing food containers clean and dry
3. Educating family and friends
Thank you for having us! @ Learning Vision at SKH

We were invited by the Mother Earth Toastmaster’s Club for their annual “Speak for Change” event. It was truly an honour to be invited as a speaker among a list of esteemed individuals doing hard and heart advocacy work within their own circles.
The message we wanted to drive back to our friends was how powerful stories can be as a tool to kickstart conversations about climate change. Before I was an Early Childhood educator, I was a Theatre Maker and Drama teacher. (I still am on the side!) So naturally, working with stories has always been the crux of my work, be it in advocacy or education.
We are in the midst of subtitling our sharing and will share the it here once it’s done!
Meanwhile, here are some captures and resources for you. The storybooks with the little NLB sign indicates that it’s available in our local libraries. After the session, a member of the MotherEarth Toastmaster’s club came forward with an offer to link her librarian friend up to have these recommendations in our local libraries. I was so humbled and amazed by the spirit of community the club embodied. Truly if you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far, go together.
The gist of our sharing was also captured by the crazy talented minds at . I am always so intrigued by the creative ways we communicate our ideas. The event was also graced by the amazing heart worker, NMP .ong
This event deserves a separate post altogether because of the amazing speakers that shared their journey, and we will definitely do one for each speaker soon! Watch this space and support your local environmentalist! @ NTUC Singapore

When we ran Kidback Plastic, the funds were coming from our own pockets. Over time as we started taking up more engagements with schools and projects, our funds were depleting.
A friend reached out to us and encouraged us to do a mini fundraiser to support our work and so we did.
This was our first public fundraiser with the lovely YODA (.sg ) community. We also got to rub shoulders and received a thumbs up from the idol of our childhood days hehehe
Although this was meant for a fundraiser we also took the time to carefully curate bite size information and introduced the 4Rs of sustainability.
Climate change, sustainability, zero waste, plastic free, veganism are the many buzzwords we hear and it could be ultimately confusing for us to make sense of these words and its relationship with each other.
So let’s break it down. Climate Change is the big umbrella, and all these little buzzwords you hear are aspects that fall under the big umbrella. They play a part in propelling climate change. So if we want to be truly sustainable and combat climate change, we can’t solely focus on one aspect of the big umbrella. We need to tackle as many of these aspects at a time. Which is why we encounter the many environmental groups advocating for these different aspects in their own capacities.
As a society, we need to start looking at things more holistically instead of distinct and separate. @ Spore Expo Garnet Rooms

More exciting stuff as we recalibrate and reshuffle our timeline!!

Sometimes on our way to adopting a zero waste lifestyle, we leave our reusables at home and have to resort to using single used plastics.
We feel guilty about it and think that we’ve failed Mother Nature. 🥺 But, there is a way we could repurpose these single used plastic cups.
Stay tuned tomorrow to find out how!

The last item in the gift basket is non other than a COLLAPSIBLE CONTAINER!
A survey we’ve done showed that one of the reason why most people avoid bringing their own containers around is because of the bulkiness.
So you have no excuse now that this container is collapsible and can fit in any bag without taking much space.
We personally use this container on a regular basis and it can fit almost all our meals! 6 inch subs, paus, takeaway hor fun noodles, nasi Padang, chicken rice and even at the buffet line!
When we bring our own containers we get conversations going. People are curious as to why we do what we do. And as cliche as it sounds, truly we need to be the change we want to see in the world.
Last chance to start folding those origami bins!
We’re closing tonight at 2359 hours!!
If you’ve uploaded an image but we haven’t acknowledged it by reposting or replying your mentions, please drop us a DM. Instagram is glitching with their stories! 😭💔

The Next item in our gift basket for is ECO ENZYMES!
🍊🧫
Eco Enzymes are the product of fermentation of organic fruit wastes and brown sugar. It’s multi purpose and can be use as a body wash, detergent, air purifier and dishwashing liquid just to name a few!
🚿🧴🧼
Eco enzymes are the underdog of natural products! The alcohol and acetic acid produced by the cultures during fermentation makes it an excellent disinfectant. No chemicals and all natural?! What a true gift this is!
Did I also mention that eco enzymes can remove stubborn stains on your clothes?! The proteases present break down these stains almost effortlessly. Really, tried and tested!! No more inhaling harmful bleach fumes!
This jar of eco enzymes were made from orange peels and fermented for 2 months and it smells really citrusy!
Hurry, 3 more days left before we end competition. Let’s start folding those newspaper origami bins!
Don’t miss out!
