Illusion is inspired by Bensen’s past experience as a commercial diver. Diving 120 meters into the unknown has made him see things in a new light. Like an observer to a colossal sculpture, Bensen saw the subsea structures around him take on different shapes at different depths of diving. Magical sights that fused from the metal frames around him captivated Bensen in awe, and remained ingrained in his memory. Bensen translates his past adventures into his sculptures, aspiring to evoke the same wonder and fascination in viewers that he had personally encountered.

Having always been fascinated by both the economic and sexual aspect of porcelain, Jeff Koons has teamed up with high-end french porcelain company, Bernardaud, to create plate sculptures with miniature versions of his famous yellow steel Balloon Dog and is limited yo only 2,300 pieces.

'According to the Bernardaud release, the new Balloon Dog (Yellow) "simulates the mirror-polished stainless steel of the monumental sculpture with its metallic yellow finish," which is then affixed to a shiny porcelain plate. "This highly complex project required the skill and expertise of modelers, decorators, and glazers within the workshop of the company, and new technologies were created in order to meet the artist's requirements."'

Visit MAD Museum to see the new Bernardaud/Koons Balloon Dog (Yellow) plate.
