Last Saturday, we conducted our second Namaste Care workshop for caregivers. We were encouraged to see caregivers taking the time and effort to deepen their understanding of person-centred care, while learning practical ways to better engage and support their loved ones with dementia or chronic illnesses.
Several participants also shared their caregiving journeys, reflecting how the workshop brought fresh perspectives and a meaningful shift in their approach moving forward. ☺️
We are truly inspired by their dedication and love. Together, we can build a more compassionate and supportive caregiving community. ❤️ 💪🏻

Did you know that difficulty chewing or swallowing, or having fewer teeth, can be early warning signs linked to sarcopenia, malnutrition, and physical frailty? These signs are often overlooked, but at the 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑 (𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐭) 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜, they are identified and addressed early as part of coordinated care that goes beyond the usual exercise and nutrition.
Inspired by a study trip to Japan, the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) started the geriatrician-led clinic, to tackle the growing concern for this silent disease in rapidly ageing Singapore.

Sarcopenia is the gradual loss of muscle mass and strength that happens as we age, typically starting around age 30. It is more common than you might think and can significantly impact mobility, independence and quality of life.
This condition affects how we climb stairs, carry groceries, maintain balance, and perform everyday activities. Without intervention, we can lose 3-8% of our muscle mass per decade after age 30, accelerating after age 60.
The good news is, sarcopenia is largely preventable and manageable!
Learn tips on how to protect your muscle health from Geriatric Medicine Consultant Dr Daphne Yang from Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), NHG Health. Today's interview with 96.3好FM host Teck Ming Ong covers practical prevention strategies, warning signs to watch for, and evidence-based approaches to maintaining strength throughout life.
The conversation transforms this important health topic into actionable insights you can use today — whether you're planning for your own healthy ageing journey or supporting family members.

In late November, five members of our IGA team had the privilege of visiting Chang Gung and the National Health Research Institute (NHRI) in Taiwan. We were warmly hosted by A/Prof Wang Jeng, Director, Chang Gung Geriatric and Long Care Research Centre, and Prof Hsu Chih-Cheng, Executive Director, NHRI’s National Centre on Geriatrics and Welfare Research (NCGWR).
Besides touring Chang Gung’s facilities spanning acute hospitals, nursing home, community and academic centres, we attended the International Conference for Healthy Ageing and Mental Wellbeing organised by NCGWR, and concluded with a joint symposium where we exchanged research insights and innovative approaches to geriatric care.
