We are proud to announce that REPETE, a student-led sustainability campaign developed by Team WhatAMESH, has received the Highly Commended Award under the Best Student Campaign category at the recent PRCA APAC Awards 2026.

WhatAMESH was formed by a group of part-time students for the Strategic Communications core unit — COM307 Campaign Management, which brought together students passionate about strategic communications, environmental advocacy, and creative public engagement.

The project was developed based on the brief from the Office of the Pro Vice Chancellor for Environmental and Life Sciences, led by Professor Jennifer Verduin at Murdoch University.

REPETE was inspired by firsthand observations from Antarctica on the growing impact of climate change, rising temperatures, and marine pollution. The campaign highlighted how Singapore’s reliance on single-use plastics contributes to environmental damage far beyond our shores.

Designed to encourage long-term behavioural change, REPETE focused on reinforcing the proper hierarchy of the 3Rs — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle — through community participation, education, and gamified engagement.

Singapore men, are you OK?

A new conversation about men’s well-being is taking shape in Singapore.

MenToo, a new movement founded by Amicus in partnership with Bros Before Woes, aims to encourage men to speak more openly about mental health, relationships, loneliness, fatherhood, financial pressures and the challenges they face.

Murdoch University is proud to partner with Amicus and MenToo in a five-year research collaboration led by Dr Amy Lim, Discipline Lead and Senior Lecturer in Psychology.

The research will explore the factors that influence men’s well-being, help-seeking behaviours, social connection and experiences across different life stages.

By building an evidence-based understanding of men’s experiences, the project seeks to support healthier models of manhood that benefit individuals, families, workplaces and the wider community.

** Call for Proposals **

9th Murdoch University Learning and Teaching Symposium 2026

Theme: Critical Perspectives on Higher Education
Date: Friday, September 18, 2026. 1 pm to 4.30 pm, SGT
Location: Online, Microsoft Teams
Proposal Deadline: Friday, July 17, 2026
________________________________________
About the Symposium

Generative AI has arrived in higher education faster than our institutions have been able to think about it.

Rather than add to the crowded shelf of adoption guides and policy templates, this symposium steps back to ask the fundamental questions – the ones the technology has made unavoidable yet rarely answers itself.

Our aim is serious, open and collegial debate, and we welcome contributions from every discipline and standpoint – critical, sceptical, ambivalent and constructive alike.

A single afternoon cannot resolve the questions it raises, but it can take them seriously. What is the purpose of higher education? What is truth? What is knowledge? What is learning? What is intelligence? And, following from all of these, do we need genuinely different forms of teaching, learning and assessment?
________________________________________
Topics

We welcome proposals addressing one or more of the following, always in the context of higher education:
• The purpose and value of higher education
• Critical perspectives on international higher education
• Truth, knowledge and academic integrity
• What is gained and lost in learning when AI does the work
• Rethinking assessment
• Teaching, curriculum design and critical AI literacy
• Equity, access and inclusion in AI-mediated higher education
• The academic profession and the automation of academic work
• The governance and political economy of AI in universities
• The environmental and social costs of AI in higher education
• Other topics broadly within the overall theme

Over the past few years, Singapore made significant strides in EV adoption, outpacing many of its regional counterparts.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Singapore leads Southeast Asia in EV market pe*******on, with electric vehicles making up nearly 20% of all new car registrations. This shift comes amid government initiatives to encourage sustainable mobility, but a question lingers: is progress as smooth as it appears?

This is where Watt steps in with innovative solutions. Watt has developed a unique model to bridge these gaps, making EV charging accessible without the financial burden on property management.

On The Right Business, Hongbin Jeong speaks with Murdoch Alumna Ivan Quek, Chief Commercial Officer and Co-founder, Novowatt to find out more.

Fear alone did not drive anti-Asian attacks during COVID, researchers say 29/05/2026

New research from Murdoch University researcher Dr Amy Lim suggests that anti-Asian racism during COVID-19 was driven more by anger and blame than by fear of infection.

The study found that people who viewed Asians as responsible for the spread of the virus were more likely to support hostile and aggressive behaviour. This helps explain why discrimination during the pandemic often escalated beyond avoidance into harassment and violence.

The findings highlight the dangers of scapegoating and the importance of challenging misinformation and divisive rhetoric during times of crisis.

Feeling more creative in nature? It might just be a feeling.

New research across three experiments found that exposure to nature did not uniquely boost creativity compared with built or abstract environments.

From office spaces to urban walks and workplace décor, creative performance remained similar across natural and non-natural settings - highlighting the need to explore a wider range of environmental influences on creativity.
