What started as an international trade challenge became an opportunity for two RP students to think like entrepreneurs.
Joelle Tan and Stephanie Wong, students from Republic Polytechnic School of Business - RP SBZ, put their knowledge of international trade, logistics and marketing to the test at the recent JA FedEx International Trade Challenge 2026.
Joelle and Stephanie, both alumnae of Woodgrove Secondary School, developed a business pitch for a company specialising in logistics and commercial delivery drones.
βOur idea was inspired by the growing shift towards diversified manufacturing hubs across Southeast Asia, as well as the rising demand for efficient, tech-driven supply chain solutions,β says Joelle.
Drawing on their knowledge of international trade, logistics and marketing, the duo analysed trade tariffs and logistics routes, assessed their competitors and developed pricing and B2B promotional strategies for their drone business.
They also went beyond the classroom, conducting independent research on global trade regulation and manufacturing logistics in Vietnam β areas outside their syllabus.
βWhere we were unsure, we would also consult Ms Ashvari, our lecturer and mentor, for guidance and refine our business pitch,β Joelle explains.
From analysing global trade dynamics to turning operational challenges into strategic advantages, the experience gave the team a sharper understanding of how businesses operate across borders. It also gave them the confidence to tackle complex problems with a global perspective.
The duo will now represent Singapore at the Asia Pacific International Trade Challenge, alongside two other Singapore teams from River Valley High School (IP) and Lotus Bridge International Academy.
Wishing them the very best!
