Tax Society@SMU is back with its annual keynote event, SMU Tax Case Challenge 2015 (“TCC 2015”). In its fourth year running, TCC 2015 aims to:
(i) Give participants the opportunity to explore tax issues through hands on application of tax laws on various scenarios
(ii) Inject elements of fun and novelty to the field of taxation
(iii) Raise greater awareness about the impact of tax policies on c
orporate decisions
(iv) Provide platform for the interaction amongst academics and corporate world, as TCC 2015 will be reaching out to not only SMU undergraduates, but also undergraduates from other institutions, our distinguished sponsors and guests. The club aims to achieve this by providing a platform for teams from various tertiary institutions to gather, at a national level, and pit their knowledge about the Singapore’s tax laws against one another. This event will also focus a lot on the participants’ ability in applying tax fundamentals to solve real-life tax issues. Preliminary Round: Participants will be exposed to a set of MCQs and one open-ended question to test their technical knowledge. SMU Tax Case Challenge: The top 4 teams from the preliminary round will advance to the Tax Case Challenge round. The Tax Case Challenge will consist of a case study and teams competing in this round are expected to present on their case solutions to a panel of judges. SMU Tax Associate Challenge (For the remaining teams): Participants will be presented with a set of financial statements and tasked to prepare a tax computation. Get ready for an exciting and brain teasing tax competition as amazing cash prizes stand to be won by teams with the best head work.
