"Be the change you want to see." Our scholars walked away from the 11th University Scholars Leadership Symposium (USLS) by Humanitarian Affairs Asia with this important message.
From 1-4 August, 10 NTU-USPians got the chance to learn from distinguished speakers like Felipe Queipo Rego, Sherina Shamdasani, Ifrah Ahmed, Sam Cawthorn ,Geraldine Cox, Breauna Dorelus, Sangduen Lek Chailert, and Jack Growden at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. From stories of Female Ge***al Mutilation in Somalia, Illegal Organ Trading in Cambodia, the digital divide in Papua New Guinea and many more, the symposium challenged our scholars to think about social issues beyond their own communities.
By participating in Kindness Day, our scholars also had the opportunity to ACT on what they've learnt. The NTU-USPians split up in groups to participate in volunteer activities like mangrove and tree planting, river cleaning, and school painting.
The symposium was a platform for our NTU-USPians to form connections with other passionate changemakers from 46 different countries. Although USLS has ended, our scholars' journey of changemaking continues! As we share our insights with the rest of the community, we strive to rethink the way NTU-USP empowers the communities we care for, so that we can maximise our impact!

Our incoming freshmen's journey in NTU-USP started off with an exciting Plants VS Zombies themed Freshman Orientation Programme! We spent three days together playing fun games, attending informative sharings and serving the community with a volunteer session! Here are some snippets of all the fun we had!
NTU-USPFOP serves to ease our freshmen into university life and provide a platform for freshmen to bond with their batchmates and seniors. We hope the freshmen enjoyed the programme planned, and once again, welcome to the NTU-USPham! 💙

Organised by NTU-USP and supported by Temasek Foundation, the Youth Regional Affairs Dialogue (YRAD) is a platform for university students in Asia to enhance their leadership skills and broaden their understanding of regional issues. This year, 67 budding youth leaders from 20 countries participated in the dialogue. Participants had the chance to discuss on topics centered around the theme of Social Issues in the World of Trades and Jobs.
Here's a compilation of some of the highlights of the week-long event!
On the second day of our programme, we were honoured to have Mr Edwin Tong, Minister for Cultural, Community and Youth & Second Minister for Law, speak to our delegates. On the same day, our delegates shared about their cultures through a night of song and dance!
Particularly memorable were our two learning journeys to Temasek Shophouse and First Page Digital as well as our empowerment workshops that taught our delegates ways to self-care!
Lastly, the presentations by the 4 finalists captivated our attentions! Congratulations again to Group 5 for being the winning team!
To all our delegates, we hope that you had an enriching time at YRAD 2023 and that you've forged meaningful friendships with your fellow delegates! YRAD 2023 may have come to an end but our conversations do not end here!

To usher in the Lunar New Year, 18 NTU-USP student volunteers headed to Whampoa district to visit the elderly residents there, and clean and paint their homes. This initiative, USpringClean, was organised by our Social Service Projects committee in collaboration with the Central Singapore Community Development Council (CDC), with the purpose of helping those in our community and spreading the festive cheer. 🎉
Our volunteers had a meaningful experience bonding with the seniors, and Senior Minister of State Heng Chee How even paid a visit!

RE:COLLECT - the residues of a life unlived. 🎭
Our annual theatre production, NTU-USPresents, was back with a bang! ✨Held on 16 & 17 December at Goodman Arts Centre, we brought our audience through a story of rediscovery and growth. In the afterlife, a spirit realises that her seemingly perfect life was but an illusion — on her journey, she discovers brutal truths about her relationship with work, family, and even herself.
From scriptwriting to directing to acting, our very own USPians took charge, and months of hard work culminated in a successful performance that was enjoyed by all. 💙

Want to find out more about what going on exchange in London is like?
Year 3 ELAH student Jessie headed off to King’s College London last semester. While she had to get used to the gloomy and cold weather, exploring the culturally-rich museums and basking in the heart of the city definitely made the experience there a memorable one. 💙

NTU-USP’s Travel Overseas Programme for Scholars (TOPS) gives our students the opportunity to conduct fieldwork overseas for a week. During the recent winter break, our Year 1 students headed to Chiang Mai in Thailand to learn about its rich culture and history. Through interacting with the locals, visiting rich historical sites and sampling the local cuisine, they gained meaningful experiences and fun memories. 💙🇹🇭Thank you for having us, Chiang Mai!

Curious about what it’s like to go on exchange in USA? Xin Qian, a Y4 ACBS student, jetted off to the University of Pennsylvania to get a taste of the American dream. 🇺🇸 Joining a volunteer club, a girls’ fitness group, and travelling to different cities during the weekends, she truly immersed herself in the American culture and embodied spirit of working hard, and playing hard. 💪🏼
