⭐️Student Feature⭐️

Yi Win (JC Chemistry, Batch of 2020) Currently reading Accounting and Business at NTU

We are so happy to have our ex student Yi Win talk about her struggles with JC Chemistry and how she overcame her obstacles with our guidance to obtain a distinction in the end 😊

Yi Win joined us in JC2 almost 6 months away from the A level examinations. She knew she had very little time so while attending our weekly tuition classes, she asked to have access to our JC1 materials for her to work on and I was impressed by her speed at which she worked through the questions and sending me questions via Whatsapp.

Her foundation was weak but instead of just giving her the answers, I tried to give her hints to link the concepts together which benefitted her because she was forced to go back to basics and think deeper. Many students at this stage would have felt defeated and probably got irritated by this approach and simply want fast answers but Yi Win had a good learning attitude.

Coming to tuition alone for 2 hours a week is not enough to do this magic. Yi Win’s willingness to put in the effort, positive attitude and her resilience brought her to where she is today! We are so proud of Yi Win! 😊

If your child is facing difficulties with pure physics in secondary 3, this might be the reason why.

In lower secondary, students learn simplified versions of physics concepts, which usually can be easily represented by an equation such as distance = speed x time.

Because of this, it is quite easy for lower secondary students can do well in exams just by memorising equations and substituting the correct numbers into the equation.

The problem arises when students mistakenly think that this is what is means to "apply concept", when in fact they are just memorising equations.

In upper secondary pure physics and beyond, no longer are the questions this straight-forward; and the basic equations taught to students are often used more like "building blocks" that are used to construct a larger equation that is unique to the scenario in the question. Students' ability to build the correct equation is in turn dependent on their ability to correctly visualise the scenario. THIS is the actual application of concept - i.e. to understand what the equation means, and how it describes the scenario in the problem.

If you found this helpful, please like and follow our page. I will be sharing some mini tutorials explaining some common concepts in the coming weeks.

Also, for those that need extra help, I'm holding catch up classes this June, drop us a whatsapp to enquire!

Here's a quick video to help students learn to draw vector parallelograms.. Do share if you know anyone who will benefit. It is under 2 minutes long!

Also, we are having a June holiday programme for those of you who are falling behind. Delay no more! Correct any misunderstandings early!

We are very proud of our class of 2021 students who gave their all in the A level exams. 80% scored A and B for Physics and 92% scored A and B for Chemistry. The next stage in life after A level will be an exciting one! Congratulations and may all of you get into your desired course of study. We thank you for trusting us to help and guide you along the way!
