And not just current inflation but, more importantly, EXPECTATIONS OF INFLATION. The latter, if unchecked, drive-up wage contracts (union negotiations) and also all prices for future delivery of commodities (futures contracts) that are driven by EXPECTATIONS of future inflation. So, to demolish the dreaded "wage-price spiral" the Fed has to be tough---and consistently appear to be tough—on inflation. This is its "biggest fire".
