Exams are around the corner or happening right now for most of the students. Mr Colin Schooling has shared a priceless advice here in this video. Not only students, teachers, tutors have to work hard but also parents' participation is crucial in their child's progress, be it academics or sports. As a parent and a tutor myself, I agree to this 100%! I see alot of difference in students when parents are actively participate in their kids' work. Definitely easily said than done but not impossible. This was an eye-opener for. Hope this helps. All the best to both students and parents to emerge successful in this rather stressful season! Creative Writing Skills and Techniques Part 2:
The first creative writing technique I shared was very well received. Some have also reached out to me asking if I will be conducting Creative Writing workshops. I will certainly organize for one soon and will do a shout-out. In the meantime, you can also drop by our website for more interesting and inspirational reads at: http://www.thedigitalstorytellers.com.sg/blog/

Here's the second tip: Visualise your story
Many students write mediocre compositions not because they aren’t imaginative. But you know what? Most children have wild imaginations. We, as educators, have to help the children in the transferring of their thoughts to words that somehow gets lost along the way.

Walking through the entire story step by step can greatly help students visualize their composition, and come up with realistic and creative ideas. That is why it is important to plot out compositions. As a general guide, it is always good for students, especially young writers, to plot out their story in three main sections – Head (Introduction), Body (Middle) and Tail (Ending).

Here is a composition, very well thought of and creatively written which also gets extra points for the tickling the funny bone. I found it at this website: http://ischoolsg.blogspot.sg/2014/09/psle-awesome-roller-coaster-ride.html

Below are some of the good phrases which were nicely incorporated into the writing.

1. apprehensively
2. craned our necks
3. whizz by
4. let out a sigh of resignation
5. my only hope for avoiding this stomach-churning ride

"No matter how bad things got, I had this burning dream." - Cristiano Ronaldo

Born in a poverty-stricken family in Rio de Janeiro, Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, once could not even garner the bus fare to take him to a trial with Brazilian club Flamengo, thereby mitigating his chances of becoming a professional footballer. But the later-to-become three times FIFA World Player of the Year and one of the greatest strikers of all time did not lose heart and went onto play for Cruzeiro, and subsequently went onto have the world prostrating at his feet.

"It was my dream to don the national colours. I grew up watching the Malaysia Cup, and every game in which Dollah Kassim or (Quah) Kim Song were playing. We would go and watch the games at the National Stadium. Something told me that someday, I must be on the pitch and playing. I knew it would happen. Eventually, my dream came true."

Local football legend V Sundramoorthy has seen it all. As a child loving his favourite sport, to the highs of the Malaysia Cup, the sports icon who is widely seen as one of Singapore’s most talented footballers ever, has brought his style to football pitches as a player and now the national team's head coach.
