“Let’s Focus on Focusing” - Preschool Parents’ Webinar
Friday 1st March 8pm to 9pm
No Parent would want their Child
to be easily DISTRACTED.
always glued to a DEVICE.
NOT CONVERSING enough at home.
to LACK FOCUS in school
to PROCRASTINATE
Yet they are Students out there who unconsciously practise wrong coping mechanism as they struggle through their educational journey.
The time has come for parents to pay attention to building the “attention strength” of their child more than building academic competencies and enrichment skills via technology.
According to recent studies, children who spend over 2 hours on a device daily are almost 8 times more likely to be diagnosed with attention-related and learning conditions, such as poor attention span, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, weak memory and processing speed. Excessive screen time is also linked to impaired social and cognitive development.
Studies also show that ADHD has increased by 4% over the last 20 years. Coincidentally, children's screen time has increased within the same period.
According to child psychologist Piaget’s Cognitive Development Theory, a 5 or 6 year old child’s cognitive development is in the pre-operational stage. There must be a balance in how much the environment (including parents and teachers) can scaffold and contribute to the child’s learning. When this is overdone with the aid of technology, the child is exposed to over stimulation and a dopamine surge that can cause cognitive impairment at a young age. Research says that an overexposure to devices can lead to a reduction in the attention level of a child.
At Kovan Learning Centre, our team of specialist education psychologists are able to prevent children from developing attention-related disorders with evidence-based early intervention with proven results for children as they navigate through their budding years in school.

It’s the exam week for PSLE students and exam month for most other students.
You have come a long way in this extraordinary year 2020! For that alone you deserve a pat on your back. It would have been an emotional roller-coaster ride with many blind spots and you guys pressed on and persevered with the steadfast support from your parents and teachers.
Exam grades play a major part but it doesn’t define who you are. Its not a reflection of your full talents and potential and definitely not a measure of character.
Stop worrying about the grades. Aim high, deliver with a clear mind and the grades will come to you.
In the next few days:
1. Surround yourself with “positive” people. You don’t need discouraging comments and conversations.
2. Organise your study space. Get it to compliment your prep work.
3. Write short affirmations to keep you going with a winning mindset.
4. Spare 30 mins daily for exercise. It will help in your focus, memory and prevents anxiety.
5.Hydrate yourself, eat and sleep well. You can’t afford to fall sick.
6. Be hopeful and thankful.
Success will come your way! Good Luck!
