๐ŸŒฑFrom Ideas to Impact!๐Ÿ’ก

Over the past eight weeks, 20 of our students embarked on an exciting learning journey through the ALP X City Sprouts Design Thinking Programme, where innovation met purpose.

Through a series of eight hands-on workshops, students explored the world of social enterprise and sustainability, learning how businesses can create positive social and environmental impact while remaining financially sustainable.

Working in teams, they applied the Design Thinking process to identify real-world problems, develop innovative solutions, and strengthen their ideas through financial planning, market validation and collaboration. Along the way, they built essential 21st-century skills in communication, teamwork, creativity and critical thinking.

The programme culminated in an exciting ๐Ÿฆˆ Shark Tank-style pitch, where each team confidently presented their business ideas to a panel of judges, convincing them why their solution deserved investment. From tackling sustainability challenges to creating meaningful social impact, our students demonstrated remarkable passion, resilience and entrepreneurial spirit.

We are incredibly proud of our budding changemakers for embracing challenges, thinking creatively and proving that young minds can make a real difference in shaping a more sustainable future.

Congratulations to our BDSians! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

๐ŸŒฑ From Self-Watering Planters to Healthy Treats,
Our Sec 1s are Designing the Future! ๐Ÿช

Our Secondary 1 students have had an exciting year of hands-on learning, thanks to two engaging Masterclasses organised by our Applied Learning Programme (ALP) committee and the Aesthetics Department!

Hereโ€™s a look at what our young innovators have been up to:

Term 2: Green Fingers, Smarter Living ๐ŸŒ
Using the Design Thinking approach, students designed and created their very own Self-Watering Planters. Their goal? To promote sustainable living habits and bring a splash of eco-friendly awareness to our community.

Term 3: MasterChefs with a Mission ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ
Our students took to the kitchen to brainstorm, modify, and bake healthy cookies! They whipped up treats that are lower in sugar and fatโ€”perfect for individuals with heart disease or diabetesโ€”without sacrificing that delicious taste.

โœจ The Big Takeaway
Beyond the fun, our students walked away with critical problem-solving skills, deep insights into the Design Thinking process, and real-world knowledge they can use to make a positive impact.

We are so proud of their creativity and empathy!

One celebration. Countless memories.๐ŸŒŸ

Our cadets marched with pride ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ, Ms Hoori shared an engaging segment, our fun quiz brought smiles ๐Ÿ˜„, and our choir filled the day with beautiful National Day songs ๐ŸŽถ.

The ONEBDS x SPD Carnival added even more joy, with games ๐ŸŽฏ, food ๐Ÿ”, and inspiring sharing sessions by our invited content creator โœจ.

Through our collaboration with SPD, the children also had a fantastic time enjoying the games, telematch and bouncy castles ๐ŸŽช.

We were also delighted to celebrate our former student, Ms Tan Siew Ling, as she shared her book and crafts with us ๐Ÿ“š.

A truly meaningful and memorable day, made special by the energy, talent, and warmth of our school family! โค๏ธ๐Ÿค

BDS Literature students participated in the National Singapore Literature Festival, where they had the opportunity to hear diverse perspectives from peers across Singapore and engage in meaningful discussions on empathy and the power of narrative.

We are also proud to have won several awards, including accolades in the Unseen Debate round and the Best Impactful Communicator award in the Round Table Discussion.

We hope this festival has inspired our students to be more empathetic and confident communicators.
