The great Colombian first Male world champion the late Gillermo Leon Botero. Won silver world medals in italy when around 17 years of age when only senior worlds and 20,000 in Medellin. An amazing athlete who could not do a PWC 170 heart rate test, as his big H/R did not reach above 170. I was fortunate to experience time with him at Colombian and Belguim worlds and Cuban Pan American games, along with his other team mates and friends.

At 15 years old Louis Sharp already won races in the International formula 4 series in England, the youngest and newest in the series.

First day Alternative nationals hosted by Otago club & supported by other clubs was held at Waimate. While the original concept was around avoiding covid problem's by focusing on Time Trials on the Waimate track, the event created interest from far and wide, Skaters from Waimate, Cave, Mahkiki,Winton, Nelson, Blenheim, Dunedin and Timaru fronted the starter, While a number were away at Easter & also Covid causaulties, the show went on, some skaters who missed the South Isl;and championships recently, due to Covid got to skate today. Over the last 2 months we have had the South Canterbury Club champs, South Island Bank Track champs, Dunedin Bays Marathon Skate & this weekend the Alternative Nationals.
While it does not make up for the loss of our Indoor and road nationals, and no mention of speed Oceania cxhamps in 2022 it helps to try and keep our sport alive and racing for the skaters desperate for action, till we find a suitable International event for the top skaters craving for more. Results follow soon. Good to see John Bissett Chief Photographer Timaru Herald made the trip to Waimate to get plenty of picks, after picking it up on facebook, must have thought the 3/4 hr trip bothways, good enough to warrent media exposure.
