The Love of 'Ori Tahiti (established in 2019)

After each class,
Your feet will be dirty, your hair messy,
Your eyes sparkling, your heart full,
Your soul imbued with the Mana of Tahiti!

Most workouts sound like punishment with better branding: Burn. Shred. Crush. Push. No excuses.

Lovely. Very prison yard chic.

What if workouts could feel less like a sentence and more like an escape?

For one hour, Iโ€™m bringing you to Tahiti.
No passport. No airport queue.
No need to sell a kidney for a resort package.

Just music, rhythm, movement, culture, and the glorious realisation that your hips may have been underemployed all this time.

Tahitian dance is a full-system workout disguised as joy:

๐Ÿง  Cognitive

The best thing I do for my brain doesn't happen at a desk. It happens barefoot, to the beat of Tahitian drums.

You're not just learning choreography, you're learning a new language. Every movement has a Tahitian name: fa'arapu, tumami, tฤmau, varu.
Your brain is simultaneously acquiring vocabulary, encoding rhythmic sequences, and coordinating spatial patterns. That's multilayer neuroplasticityโ€”the kind a spin class or treadmill will never give you.

๐Ÿ’ช Physical

Beneath the flowing grace is deep core activation, cardiovascular demand, and proprioceptive challenge. It looks effortless. Your heart rate says otherwise.

๐Ÿค Psychosocial

Shared rhythmic movement synchronises nervous systems.
Lower cortisol. Higher oxytocin.
The kind of belonging that lingers long after the drums stop.

This isn't theory for me. I teach 'Ori Tahiti.
Most people pay for Duolingo. I get my students to learn Tahitian, and burn 400 calories at the same time.

And this Saturday (and next), I'm opening the floor to absolute beginners:
๐Ÿ“ Singapore Polo Club
๐Ÿ“… 6 & 13 June ยท 5:30 PM
๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ All levels ยท Ages 16+

If you've ever been curious, consider this is your invitation. DM for details and registration link.

Iโ€™m running a special introductory open class for newcomers. Youโ€™ll learn the foundations of โ€™Ori Tahiti, the traditional dance of Tahiti.

It'll challenge your coordination, focus, memory, proprioception, musicality, and body awareness.

The 76% Secret Your Brain Wants You to Know ๐Ÿง

โ€‹If youโ€™ve been walking, cycling, or hitting the golf course to stay sharp, I have some news. While those are fantastic for your heart, the New England Journal of Medicine found they show almost 0% reduction in dementia risk.
โ€‹
โ€‹It turns out that cardiovascular health and cognitive reserve are two different games. To stay resilient against aging, the brain needs to do more than just moveโ€”it needs to rewire.

โ€‹The Great Outlier: Dance ๐Ÿ’ƒ
โ€‹In the same study, dance was the undisputed champion, linked to a 76% risk reduction in dementia.

โ€‹Why?

Because dancing is a high-stakes workout for your brain. It forces your brain to manage:
โ€‹Rhythm & Timing ๐Ÿฅ
โ€‹Spatial Navigation ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ
โ€‹Physical Coordination ๐Ÿ‘ฃ
โ€‹Emotional Expression โค๏ธ

โ€‹This constant "split-second" decision-making builds a denser, more resilient neural network. You aren't just moving; you're building a structural fortress for your mind.

โ€‹The "Midlife" Window of Opportunity

โ€‹Research from Boston University shows that our 40s, 50s, and 60s are the "Golden Era" for brain protection. Being active during this window can lower dementia risk by up to 41%.

โ€‹The intensity matters, too. Moderate to vigorous movement is the key to unlocking these neuroprotective benefits.

โ€‹You donโ€™t need more "steps"โ€”you need more complexity.

โ€‹If you want a workout that builds muscle and a sharper mind, it's time to step off the treadmill and onto the dance floor.

Letโ€™s trade the repetitive loops for some rhythm and cognitive challenge.

โ€‹Ready to build your cognitive reserve? Join me for a session and letโ€™s start rewiring.

โ€‹โœจ Comment "DANCE" below or DM me for class details!
