Singapore Sign Language: The unique, visual language of Deaf Singaporeans A language in its own right, SgSL has its own history and roots, and has been essential in shaping the culture and identity of our Deaf community.

As a Singapore Sign Language (SgSL) teacher, I am heartened by the government's initiative to study the official recognition of SgSL. This move not only acknowledges the rich cultural heritage of the Deaf community but also paves the way for greater inclusivity in our society.

Official recognition would validate SgSL as a legitimate language, fostering a stronger sense of identity among Deaf individuals and enhancing their ability to fully participate in various aspects of life. It is a significant step towards ensuring equal opportunities and accessibility for all.
