For a long time, I was told I couldn’t sing well... Before I started teaching, and even after. By singers, non-singers, and other coaches.

And that's why till today, every time someone says something nice about my voice, it feels like a big win for me, no matter how many times it happens.

Two nights ago I was singing karaoke with my IVA colleagues, and people who’ve been singing and teaching for decades reacted very positively to my singing (felt genuine to me... I hope! 😝).

And this is during a season where I’ve been mentally, emotionally, and physically tired for an extended period of time.

The truth is, when your thinking about singing is in the right place, and you’re training properly instead of trying random things and hoping they work, improvement isn’t a “maybe”. It's guaranteed.

I’ll be hosting a workshop soon where I’ll share some of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt over the past 17 years of figuring my voice out.

Ever wondered how the whistle is produced?

It’s a super high-frequency sound created when air is compressed and released through a tiny aperture — the lips.

The smaller the space created by the mouth and lips, the higher the pitch. Some people can even control it precisely enough to form melodies.
