Events like BEX Asia provide valuable opportunities for students from the School of Architecture & the Built Environment (ABE) to experience firsthand how emerging technologies, job redesign, and new ways of working are shaping the future of the Built Environment sector.

The conversations shared by Dr Faris Akbar Hajamaideen, together with industry perspectives and Ar. Excited to see these important conversations taking place at as the Built Environment sector continues to evolve through AI, digitalisation and workforce transformation.

A key highlight was our Director, Dr Faris Akbar Hajamaideen, sharing how Singapore Polytechnic's Company and Workforce Transformation (CWT) approach helps Built Environment companies navigate change, strengthen capabilities, and prepare their workforce for the future. His insights underscored the importance of aligning industry transformation with talent development to build a resilient and future-ready sector.

Equally inspiring was the panel discussion, "The Future of Built Environment Work: AI, Job Redesign and Digital Transformation", where our colleague Ar. Huiping Su shared her perspectives on how technology and new ways of working are reshaping professional practice. The discussion highlighted the need for organisations to rethink workflows, redesign jobs and empower employees to focus on higher-value work.

As the School of Architecture & the Built Environment (ABE), we work closely with industry partners to connect education, innovation, and practice, so today's workforce and tomorrow's professionals are ready to thrive in a digital Built Environment.

🏆 Proud Moment for Our DCE Students!

Congratulations to our Diploma in Civil Engineering (DCE) Year 3 students for achieving 2nd Runner-up at the Built Environment Case Competition 2026 (BECC)!

Organised by the NUS Civil Engineering Club in partnership with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Real Estate Developers' Association of Singapore (REDAS), this year's competition challenged participants to envision "Singapore 2050 – Designing Inclusive and Smart Living Futures."

Competing against 16 teams, our students impressed the judges with their innovative ideas and teamwork, emerging as one of the top three teams in the competition.

Student Spotlight

Internships provide opportunities to learn, grow, and gain valuable industry exposure.

We're proud to share that our Diploma in Civil Engineering student, Manoj Ghale, recently completed an enriching internship experience with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore. During his internship, he gained first-hand experience supporting a major infrastructure project and had the chance to witness emerging construction technologies in action, including innovative robotics being used on site.

From working alongside industry professionals to seeing how classroom knowledge is applied in real-world projects, Manoj's journey offered valuable insights into the future of the built environment sector.

Building a Career in MICE: DEPM Student Spotlight

Diploma in Integrated Events & Project Management (DEPM) student Lin Enxin took the stage at Singapore MICE Development (SMD) 2026, joining an industry panel to share her journey from student to Events Intern at the Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS).

Moderated by Richard Ireland, President of SACEOS, the panel also featured industry professionals from Marina Bay Sands and Clarion Events. Enxin shared her internship experiences, career aspirations and insights into the MICE industry, highlighting how DEPM’s industry-focused curriculum and experiential learning prepare students with the practical skills, confidence and professional networks needed to thrive in the events industry.

Inspired by his family's love for plants, Muhammad Sufi Emmy Effandy pursued Landscape Architecture and went on to be part of the award-winning team behind Reminisce at the Singapore Garden Festival Landscape Design Challenge.
