With the levelling of the playing field between both genders over the years, the roles women are expected to play have changed significantly — from the traditional full-time homemaker 🤱 to the modern-day independent lady with a career and life 💁‍♀️ of her own. Despite this shift in paradigm of women’s roles in society, there still exists some semblance of expectations that women ought to be the main caregiver in the household.

Join us and our esteemed guest speakers, Ms Carrie Tan 陈澮敏 and Ms Raeesah Khan in exploring this very topic of women empowerment, especially in the political arena, while balancing these very expectations. 💪

Meritocracy is a key principle in the Singapore education system. Throughout our lives, we are always told that if we work hard, we will achieve success later in life. But, is this truly the case? 🤔 Join us in our first collaboration with NTUSS and explore whether education is truly an equaliser in modern day Singapore. 🧐

Through this forum, you will be given the opportunity to engage in lively discussions surrounding the topic of Meritocracy and ask questions to our esteemed guest speakers, Dr Wan Rizal and Dr Kenneth Paul Tan. Dr Wan Rizal is currently an elected Member of Parliament for the Jalan Besar GRC. In his political endeavours, he has placed much emphasis on social mobility through education. Dr Kenneth Paul Tan, a Professor at the Hong Kong Baptist University. In his research, Dr Tan has critically dissected the role of meritocracy in Singapore society, and its possible implications on social mobility and inequality. ⚖️

The PPGA Sub-Club proudly hosted our Fake News Forum on 28th Jan! The students and faculty of SSS were graced by the presence of Senior Minister of State for Law and Health Mr Edwin Tong, SC, as well as the Chief of the Workers' Party, Mr Pritam Singh.

The forum was both honest and insightful. It was a timely reminder of the importance and practicality of open and constructive discussion. We would like to thank our esteemed speakers for such an engaging discussion - your candour and genuineness are deeply appreciated.

We would also like to thank all the SSS participants for your enthusiasm and support - every one of you helped make this event insightful and successful! We will continue to work tirelessly to serve our PPGA students and to bring more meaningful events to NTU.
