# # # Episode 13 | Why Do Buddhists Offer Flowers and Fruits?

种下善因,就更有机会得到善果;

Many people see flowers and fruits placed before the Buddha and ask:

**“Does the Buddha really need these offerings?”**

The answer is no.

Offerings express **respect and gratitude**, and they also remind us to practise.

🌸 **Flowers remind us of impermanence.**

Flowers are beautiful, but they eventually fade.

They remind us that everything in life changes, so we should cherish the present and learn to accept impermanence.

🍎 **Fruits remind us of cause and effect.**

A fruit begins with a seed and needs time and conditions to grow.

Likewise, our actions have consequences.

Wholesome causes are more likely to bring wholesome results.

🙏 **The most important offering**

The price or quantity of an offering is not what matters most.

What matters is a sincere and respectful heart.

The best offering is to:

**do good, speak kindly, think kindly, and practise the Dharma in daily life.**

Episode 11 | Why Do Buddhists Bow to the Buddha?

放下傲慢,学习谦卑;
放下烦恼,保持清明;

Many people ask:

“If the Buddha is not a god, why do Buddhists bow to him?”

Buddhists do not bow out of fear or to please the Buddha.

Bowing is a practice of respect, gratitude, humility and self-reflection.

The Buddha awakened to the truth of suffering and taught a path toward freedom. We bow in gratitude for his teachings and in respect for the wisdom and compassion he represents.

🙏 Bowing reminds us to:

Let go of pride and practise humility.
Let go of agitation and return to calmness.
Let go of attachment and cultivate compassion and wisdom.

A Buddha image is also a reminder.

When we see the Buddha’s peaceful image, we can ask:

Can I be less impulsive?
More compassionate?
More wise?

True bowing is not only lowering our body before the Buddha.

It is allowing our heart and behaviour to change.

One Minute to Understand Buddhism|Episode 8

What is the purpose of Buddhist practice?

Some people may think that practising Buddhism is about seeking supernatural powers, blessings, or hoping that everything will go according to their wishes.

In fact, the purpose of Buddhist practice is to understand ourselves and the nature of life, reduce suffering, cultivate wisdom and compassion, and gradually develop inner freedom and peace.

Buddhist practice can help us:

🌿 Reduce worries and cultivate inner peace
Through learning and practice, we become more aware of our greed, anger and attachments, and are less easily controlled by negative emotions.

💡 Develop wisdom and understand the truth of life
The Dharma teaches us about karma, impermanence and dependent origination, helping us face life’s changes with greater clarity.

❤️ Cultivate compassion and build harmonious relationships
When we learn to understand, care for and respect others, our relationships become more harmonious and our lives become warmer.

🧘 Improve our character and become better people
Following moral principles, being honest, performing good deeds and practising generosity help us make wiser choices in daily life.

🪷 Create wholesome causes for a better future
Every wholesome thought, word and action creates beneficial conditions for ourselves and others.

☸️ Ultimately move towards liberation and genuine peace
The ultimate aim of Buddhist practice is to remove the roots of suffering, transcend the cycle of birth and death, and attain true freedom and peace.

Buddhist practice is not about escaping from life, but about facing it with greater clarity. It is not only about seeking peace for ourselves, but also wishing that others may be free from suffering and find happiness.

When we begin to apply the Dharma in small, everyday ways, our lives can gradually become wiser, more compassionate and more meaningful.

🌼 **【Buddha Image Introduction|Maitreya Bodhisattva】** 🌼

**Maitreya Bodhisattva** (Sanskrit: *Maitreya*), whose name means **"The Benevolent One,"** is revered in Mahāyāna Buddhism as the **Future Buddha**.

According to the Buddhist scriptures, Maitreya Bodhisattva now resides in the **Inner Court of Tuṣita Heaven**, where He continues to teach and cultivate the Bodhisattva path. When the appropriate causes and conditions arise, He will descend into this world, attain Buddhahood beneath the **Nāga Flower (Dragon Flower) Tree**, and turn the Wheel of Dharma for the benefit of countless beings.

💮 **Why is Maitreya called the "Future Buddha"?**

Although He has not yet appeared in this world as a Buddha, Śākyamuni Buddha predicted that Maitreya will attain Buddhahood in the future. For this reason, He is respectfully known as the **Future Buddha**.

🌿 **Maitreya Bodhisattva inspires us to:**

✨ Cultivate loving-kindness and compassion.
✨ Perform wholesome deeds and accumulate merit.
✨ Diligently cultivate wisdom through Dharma practice.
✨ Live with confidence and hope in the path to awakening.

Maitreya reminds us that a brighter future begins with the wholesome thoughts and compassionate actions we cultivate today.

May we follow the example of Maitreya Bodhisattva, nurture kindness, practise diligently, and walk the path towards wisdom and awakening. 🙏

He is often depicted holding the Sword of Wisdom,
representing the cutting away of ignorance, confusion, and delusion.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Manjushri Bodhisattva is often seen riding a lion,
symbolizing wisdom, courage, and inner strength.

In Buddhism,
true wisdom is not merely intelligence,

🌿 Understand right from wrong
🌿 Manage emotions wisely
🌿 Show understanding toward others
🌿 Reflect deeply within ourselves

🌸 Buddhist Fun Fact 🌸

Did you know? 🤔
In many Buddhist temples,
a wooden fish instrument called the “muyu” is used during chanting.

But have you ever wondered why it is hollow inside? 🪵🐟

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

In Buddhism,
the wooden fish is not just a ritual instrument,
but also carries symbolic meaning for spiritual practice.

The hollow center symbolizes
“emptiness” and letting go of attachment.

Its rhythmic sound reminds us
to stay mindful and attentive.

Each steady beat also represents
discipline, consistency, and perseverance in practice.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Buddhism teaches that
true cultivation is not only about chanting or rituals,
but also about constantly observing and understanding our own mind.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

So the next time you hear the wooden fish in a temple,
you may remind yourself to:

✨ Let go of worries
✨ Stay present
✨ Keep kind thoughts
✨ Calm the mind

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

The Buddha once taught:

“One should remain diligent and mindful, not careless.”
