The BCA Green Mark Scheme was launched in January 2009 as an initiative to drive Singapore's construction industry towards more environment-friendly buildings. It is intended to promote sustainability in the built environment and raise environmental awareness among developers, designers and builders when they start project conceptualisation and design, as well as during construction.

: Notice something similar in all these buildings? That’s right, greenery! You may have walked past such buildings hundreds of times, but did you know that this is an initiative under the Skyrise Greenery Incentive Scheme (SGIS)?
The scheme was first introduced in 2009 and has since helped greened more than 110 buildings around Singapore by funding up to 50% of installation costs for rooftop and vertical greenery. Building greenery brings about benefits such as reducing the urban island heat effect, improving air quality and filtering dust particles.
Fun Fact: The Pinnacle@Duxton, the tallest public housing development in the world, is one such example, with the seven 50-storey buildings connected by gardens on the 26th and 50th floors!

Buildings need to be designed properly and built safely. Industry stakeholders are required to comply with the building regulations and adopt good practices when carrying out building works to ensure construction works are properly designed and carried out without compromise to structural safety, or cause damage to surrounding properties.
This session aims to highlight the importance of building safety compliance. BCA will share the upcoming building control initiatives as well as good practices for both the design and construction of building works. A preview of a newly developed design guide on the use of Grade B600 high strength reinforcement in reinforced concrete structures will be shared.
