Weโre proud to share a new publication by our researchers, Weichen Shu and Dr Oliver Watkins, exploring the hidden toxins in everyday foods.
Focusing on soybeans, soybean-based products, and other legumes, the team developed an approach that can detect a wide range of unusual and rarely monitored โ simultaneously, and even at extremely low levels. Reassuringly, these commonly consumed remain safe and reliable choices, with toxin levels found to be low.
This research not only strengthens our confidence in everyday food staples, but also advances how we monitor food safety in an increasingly complex food system.

Multi-Mycotoxin Quantification in Soy Protein Powders, Soymilk, Soybeans (Glycine max) and Other Legumes Using a New Targeted Differential Ion Mobility LCMS Method
Foods contaminated with fungal mycotoxins pose a serious risk to human health. Soy and other legumes are a vital source of alternative protein, yet the rates of mycotoxin contamination are not understood. We therefore developed a sensitive stable-isotope-dilution-differential-ion-mobility-spectromet...

We had our first townhall for the year on 9 March 2026 and it was a wonderful time of sharing updates and encouraging one another for the year ahead!
We celebrated our new colleagues and acknowledged those who achieved remarkable feats in their field at the start of this quarter ๐ And in the spirit of the Lunar New Year ๐ ๐ , everyone exchanged hand written messages of positive affirmations in Ang Baos (red packets). We also enjoyed a festive lion dance performance to kick off the year right with a gong!

Congratulations to our very own Research Fellow, Dr Resshaya Roobini, for being selected as one of only 20 women (out of 629 applicants) across all academic disciplines for the Falling Walls Female Science Talents Intensive Track! ๐ฅณ
The Female Science Talents Intensive Track is a highly competitive, year-long global programme by the Falling Walls Foundation. It aims to advance in science by supporting outstanding early-career women through development, , and international . The programme also seeks to address barriers that early-career researchers often face in academia.
Selection into the programme is based on rigorous criteria, including excellence in oneโs scientific field, active contribution to the Falling Walls community, and strong communication skills to showcase research .
At , Dr Resshaya Roobini Murukesu works in the LightSPAN Project, funded by the National Research Foundation Singapore, implementing a clinical trial in collaboration with Lions Befrienders. She is also part of the international Translational Sensory and Circadian Neuroscience Unit.
We are immensely proud of Dr Resshaya for this amazing achievement and look forward to the many accomplishments she will continue to clinch! This recognition highlights not only Dr Resshayaโs achievements, but also TUMCREATEโs commitment to nurturing excellence and diversity in research.
