Grooveworks is the ground-breaking brainchild of British multi-instrumentalist/composer/educator Greg Lyons and is continued by his Grooveworks mentees.

Open to beginners in jazz and pro-level players working on modern musical structures, this course allows all musicians to develop their instrumental/vocal/musical concepts and delivery.

The music, moment, and interaction with the rest of the band, will be your forum for development under the guidance of one of our stellar Grooveworks mentors.

The Grooveworks Festival — a showcase of the works of each band during the term - is not to be missed.

Upon registration, you’ll be asked to indicate your schedule availability and musical profile to facilitate matching you to the right ensemble.

You’ll learn with your band for 2.5 hours each week, building a unique repertoire in the individual and collective growth process to become a cohesive performing unit for the final performance.

Beginner levels focus on assimilating the core rhythmic language and standard jazz repertoire, for developing coherent interaction skills.

NEW! Grooveworks presents HornWorks

Most wind instrument players in jazz and popular music perform as soloists with a rhythm section.

This course led by saxophonist, conductor and educator Andreas Marinello aims to expose wind instrument players to playing with other horn players, with a focus on blending, phrasing, dynamics and intonation – all skills needed to perform as a grooving, powerful horn section, be it as a Tower-of-Power-style formidable powerhouse, in a more traditional Big Band setting or in a contemporary jazz ensemble like Grooveworks’ own Multiform.

Sign up per HornWorks session.

Dates:

Sunday, 6 to 7.30 pm (1.5 hrs)
Nov 10, 17
December 8, 15
January 12 onwards every Sunday

Usual price $40/person; SPECIAL rate for Nov/Dec $30.
