SMU Law International Relations Club

On the 18th of August, IRC had the honour of receiving distinguished guests from Rwanda, consisting of honorary members of the Judiciary and the government — Chief Justice Dr Faustin Ntezilyayo, His Excellence Jean De Dieu, Justice, and Judges of the various court offices, and more.

Our Events Director, Clarissa, and Marketing Director, Trina, led the esteemed guest on a tour of YPHSL’s well-known facilities. We had a lovely experience hosting the guests from Rwanda and enjoyed the interactions with them along the way.

IRC would like to thank the esteemed guests for gracing us with their presence and enthusiasm during the tour. We hope that they had a great time in Singapore and we look forward to hosting them again! ☺️

On 15th August 2023, YPHSL welcomed leading faculty members and educators from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).

Our IRC President, Delvine, and Vice-President, Reuben, led the esteemed guests on a tour of YPHSL’s most iconic facilities, including the Kwa Geok Choo Law Library, Pro Bono Centre, David Marshall Moot Court and the Level 5 rooftop garden.

Universitas Gadjah Mada is the third valued partner university of SMU in Indonesia and IRC is proud to represent YPHSL in extending our kind hospitality to the esteemed guests.

IRC would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the delegates for their lively participation, and we are heartened to hear that we played a part in making their visit to YPHSL a memorable one.

For a few years running, IRC has been hosting the Ho Chi Minh University of Law (HCMUL) during their visit to YPHSL.

This year, IRC representatives Reuben and Isabelle spent the morning of 10th August 2023 with the students and faculty members of HCMUL.

Our welcoming members kicked off the event with a brief introduction of the Singapore Legal System, followed by an insightful sharing on POFMA by SMU Assistant Professor of Law, Kenny Chng. The students were fascinated by Singapore’s unique statute dealing with fake news, and many followed up with insightful questions.

The group was also brought on a campus tour of YPHSL’s well-known facilities, such as the Kwa Geok Choo Law Library and the David Marshall Moot Court.

IRC would like to thank HCMUL for their enthusiastic participation, and we hope the students enjoyed the fruitful cross-cultural exchange. We look forward to hosting HCMUL again in the near future.

IRC was delighted to assist YPHSL with welcoming esteemed guests from the Lao People's Democratic Republic on 7 February 2023.

The esteemed delegation led by the Lao Supreme People’s Prosecutor were visiting on their trip to Singapore hosted by the AGC.

The visit commenced with a warm introduction in the David Marshall Moot Court by our faculty - Professors Alvin See, Chen Siyuan, and Zhang Wei. Our IRC President, Delvine, and Public Relations Directors, Isabelle and Lovein then led the guests on a personalised tour around the campus.

Our visiting guests gained insight into our SMU pedagogy, the study of law in the Singapore context, and learned more about our bustling campus in the heart of the city.

IRC was privileged to have had the opportunity to host our guests and hopes that the delegation enjoyed their visit to YPHSL.
