Junyuan Primary School

𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐤 𝐊𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐧𝐠: 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐤𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞!

On 11 August 2026, our Primary 5 and Primary 6 Higher Malay students had the opportunity to experience the magic of Malay folklore through an engaging theatre performance titled “Robot Masuk Kampung”.

The performance was part of the Cultural Performance Exposure Fund (CPEF), an initiative that complements classroom-based Malay language education by providing enriching experiences that foster students’ appreciation and passion for the Malay language beyond the school environment. Through authentic local Malay cultural performances, students are given valuable opportunities to immerse themselves in the rich traditions and artistic expressions of Malay culture.

Filled with humour, adventure and audience interaction, Robot Masuk Kampung brought students on an exciting journey through the world of Malay folklore. The story followed a robot as it encountered well-known Malay folklore characters such as Sang Kancil, Pak Pandir, Bawang Putih, Tok Pawang, Si Tanggang, Hang Tuah and Puteri Gunung Ledang.

Each encounter introduced the robot—and the audience—to stories rich in moral values and meaningful life lessons. Through these legendary folklore characters, students discovered that Malay folktales are more than just entertaining stories. They also contain proverbs and wisdom that reflect the culture, values and heritage passed down through generations.

The experience became even more memorable as several students were invited to take part in the performance. They had the opportunity to act out scenes alongside the performers by taking on supporting roles and interacting directly with the actors. Through these moments, students gained a deeper appreciation of theatre performance and experienced firsthand how acting, music, dance and audience participation can bring stories to life.

Robot Masuk Kampung was not only an entertaining experience but also a meaningful cultural journey for our pupils. The performance provides an experience that foster students’ appreciation and passion for the Malay language beyond the school environment.

Primary 3 Cohort Learning Journey

The Primary 3 students had a super fun learning adventure at the Geylang Serai Heritage Gallery! 🏙️✨

They got to dive into the rich history and culture of the Malay and Muslim communities in Singapore — think traditional games, gorgeous costumes, and yes, delicious local food. The students explored four exciting stations before heading out on a precinct walk to the lively Geylang Serai Market where the sights, sounds and smells made everything come alive!

This was not your typical classroom lesson — it was a full-on cultural experience that had the students wide-eyed and full of questions. Seeing them so engaged and excited about Singapore's heritage was truly heartwarming. 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who made this trip possible. We hope your children came home with fun stories to share — and maybe even inspired a family visit to Geylang Serai soon! 😊🛍️

Primary 5 Cohort Learning Journey

Our Primary 5 students had an absolutely amazing day out at the Indian Heritage Centre earlier this year — and what a day it was! 🎉🌟
From the moment they walked in, the kids were completely captivated! They explored seven interactive learning stations packed with colour, culture and discovery — think stunning traditional costumes, dynamic dance movements, mouth-watering food displays and the inspiring stories of Indian pioneers who helped shape Singapore into what it is today. 🪔✨
And it didn't stop there! The students also headed out on a precinct walk to soak in the sights and sounds of the neighbourhood, making the whole experience feel so real and alive. There's nothing quite like stepping out of the classroom and into the heart of Singapore's living history! 🏙️👣

It was one of those days where you could just see the curiosity and excitement on every single face. Our students left feeling inspired, more appreciative of Singapore's incredible multicultural heritage and honestly — just really happy! 😄❤️

We are so proud of how enthusiastically they threw themselves into the experience. Here's to learning beyond the classroom and discovering the beautiful stories that make Singapore so uniquely ours. 🇸🇬🌺

Over the past four days, Junyuan Primary School had the pleasure of hosting teachers and students from Suzhou Wuzhong Experimental Primary School (苏州吴中实验小学) as part of our Cultural Exchange & Immersion Programme.

Our students learnt alongside one another, exchanged cultures, and forged friendships through meaningful shared experiences.
Throughout the programme, our visitors experienced:

🏫 School tour and CCA experiences
🎉 Racial Harmony Day activities celebrating Singapore's rich diversity

Beyond the activities, what made this exchange truly special were the conversations, laughter, teamwork and friendships built between students and teachers from both schools.
As the programme comes to a close, we hope the memories created over these four days will continue to inspire future collaboration and strengthen the bond between our two schools.

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐣𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐡 𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫
Congratulations to our Malay Language Ambassadors (Rakan Bahasa), Aura Nazeerah and Putra Mifta Rayn, from Primary 5 for achieving Third Place in the Pertandingan Penterjemah Pintar (Translation Competition). The competition aims to promote the effective use of bilingualism and raise awareness of its importance and relevance in everyday life.

The competition brought together participants from 22 schools, challenging students to translate words, phrases and song lyrics accurately according to the context provided. Each round tested not only their bilingual proficiency but also their ability to understand meaning and choose the most appropriate translation for different situations.

In the final round, our ambassadors faced an even more demanding task. They were required to translate a news report, ensuring that the translation preserved the original meaning while remaining accurate, natural and contextually appropriate. This required strong language skills, critical thinking and a keen understanding of both languages.

Aura Nazeerah and Putra Mifta Rayn's achievement is a proud milestone for Junyuan Primary School and an inspiration for their peers to continue embracing bilingualism with confidence and excellence.

✨NDP Engagement Talk ✨
What a fantastic time we had on 2 July during mass assembly! 😃
Our old boy, Lieutenant Colonel Firdaus Ghazali, engaged our Primary Fours and Fives in the National Day Parade (NDP) Engagement Talk. ❤️ He shared, wholeheartedly, with our students the history of NDP, NDP's theme for 2026 "Majulah Singapura, Go Beyond!" and his memories as a student in JYPS! Cute bears in army fatigues were also given out to some students during quiz time. 🧸🥰

August, the Mascot, made a surprise visit too! Our students got up close with it while we were engaged in the sing-along of the NDP songs. 🎶🇸🇬

𝑷𝟒 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔: 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑳𝒊𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆!

For four exciting days, our library was filled with laughter, suspense and heartfelt moments as our Primary 4 storytellers took to the stage with confidence and creativity.

Each storyteller captivated the audience with expressive voices, vivid imagination and engaging performances that kept their peers thoroughly entertained.

Beyond the stage, the energy from the audience made the event even more memorable. Classmates cheered enthusiastically, waved colourful handmade posters and proudly supported their classmates throughout the competition. Their encouragement and school spirit created a warm and uplifting atmosphere that truly celebrated every participant’s effort and courage.

This meaningful event would not have been possible without our talented storytellers, supportive classmates, and the unwavering dedication of our school leaders, teachers and staff members.

𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 to all our winners and participants for making this year’s competition such a joyful celebration of creativity, confidence and self-expression. As the semester draws to a close, we are reminded once again that storytelling has the power to inspire, connect and spark imagination in every child.

The 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛 proudly presented a skit titled 𝑪𝒉𝒐𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑩𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒚 which highlighted the importance of empathy, teamwork and making positive choices in everyday life.

The story followed Liyah, a quiet student who often avoided conflict, as she navigated different situations during lessons, group work and recess. Guided by two inner voices — the mischievous Shadow and the thoughtful Light — Liyah learned that even small actions can affect others. By the end of the skit, she discovered the value of participation, collaboration and respect, showing that harmony begins with everyday choices.

We were also delighted to welcome the MOE Kindergarten students who joined us as part of the audience and added to the warm and lively atmosphere of the performance.

The Drama Club members showcased confidence, creativity and teamwork, making the performance both entertaining and meaningful for all who attended.
