The Academy of Human Development is honoured to be featured in CNA's Singapore Tonight, giving our take on the rising interest in paracounselling courses in Singapore.

Here are the main points:
- Paracounselling is like 'First-Aid' to help those who are in emotional distress. Paracounsellors are not responsible for continuous therapy but are importantin their informal role to provide needful and urgent support, before referring to professional counsellors or psychotherapists if needed.

- Anyone can learn paracounselling! Whether you are young or old, studied psychology or not, you are welcome to learn basic paracounselling skills, such as emphatic listening, attending skills, and asking the right questions. It's not the same as just talking to a friend. We hope that more people learn to have para-counselling skills as a life skill, so that they can help more people.

- Our paracounselling courses are taught by experienced professional counsellors and the syllabus is aligned to SkillsFuture's Skills Framework, ensuring that the content is relevant and standardised.
