Welcome to the official page of the School of the Arts, Singapore (SOTA)!

The School of the Arts (SOTA) is Singapore’s first national pre-tertiary specialised arts school with a six-year integrated arts and academic curriculum, leading to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or Career-related Programme, for youths aged 13-18 years old. Under the ambit of the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), SOTA offers a dedicated development path for those who have interest and show early talent in the arts, providing a learning environment where both the artistic and academic potential can best be realised. With a vision to nurture creative citizens for the future, SOTA aims to identify and groom artistic and creative learners who positively impact Singapore and the world, through a vibrant learning environment that is anchored in the arts. A school of the future, SOTA embraces a holistic educational philosophy that celebrates experimentation, expression and discovery.

Our Year 1 Visual Arts student, Eden Goh, presents her vision of a healthy heart for Singapore Heart Foundation’s art competition, Art for the Heart 2026! This year’s competition theme of “Strong Hearts, Bright Future” saw 2000 entries, of which Eden’s work was shortlisted as one of the top 30 art pieces! 🤩

A round of applause for our Tchoukball ‘C’ Div Boys and Girls teams for clinching 2nd Runner-Up in League 1 at the 4thActiveSG-TBAS Inter-School ‘C’ Division Tchoukball Championships 2026! 💪

This year’s competition followed the NSG format, with teams first competing in the pool stage before advancing to League 1 or League 2.

Behind this achievement were countless hours of training, teamwork and a shared passion for the sport. Well done to our players for giving it their all on court and staying focused throughout the competition, and thank you to their coaches and teachers for their guidance! 👏

Here’s to the hard work, determination and team spirit that brought them this far! 🎉

What happens when learning transcends the classroom? 🌏

In June, our students from OSL KThom CAS journeyed to Cambodia, gaining new perspectives through an eye-opening experience. The CAS, named after Kampong Thom in Cambodia, is dedicated to creating meaningful change through the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and culture.

This week-long trip covered a myriad of different initiatives, including Theatre-making, where the students partnered with Chea Sim High School and interacted with Cambodian youths to introduce the art of theatre-making to them! 🎭 Through this program, they provided a platform for students to voice their thoughts and expand their worldviews. The process included conducting a Human Library to learn and share each other’s stories, to which they then produced short plays centred around a common theme.

Another initiative that took place during the trip was raising funds for the CAS’ partnering non-governmental organisation, Siloam Xperience, in building a vocational school called The Learners’ Village. To raise funds, a locally-held fundraiser took place on SOTA grounds and consisted of carnival games and merchandise designed by the students themselves! 💪

Towards the end of August, we invited CEO of Caldecott Music Group Kuok Meng Ru and singer-songwriter Charlie Lim down for sharing sessions with our students! From music career pathways and industry insights to the future of work and creative processes, their sessions sparked conversations and fresh perspectives on life in the creative industry.

Looking back at her SOTA journey, Class of 2025 Theatre alumna Aliyah Zulkarnain has grown most in her confidence to apply what she has learned to arrive at solutions on her own.

“This growth was largely shaped by my teachers, who encouraged me to think independently by guiding me with questions rather than giving direct solutions to all my problems. While this approach was sometimes frustrating, it pushed me to think critically and arrive at conclusions on my own.”

From music and dance to fun-filled games, the hall was buzzing with energy as our students and teachers took to the stage and came together to celebrate our amazing staff. 🎶💃

Staff members were also treated to thoughtful cards and gifts from SOTA Leadership Academy and Parent Support Group! 🫶

We’re thrilled to share that our Visual Arts students Cheng Jianing (Year 2), Natalie Low Zu Yan (Year 2) and Noelle Chen Zhiyue (Year 4) are prize winners in the 18th SWS National Junior Watercolour Competition 2026! 🎨 Organised by the Singapore Watercolour Society, the competition saw numerous participants—of which our three students were a part of—enduring the heat to produce spectacular works reflecting the vibrant scenes of Clarke Quay in watercolour.

A round of applause to the trio for their creativity and passion to produce these vibrant works that capture their unique voices! 👏

SOTA alumni continue to make their mark on theatre in Singapore and overseas! 👏🏼

IBCP Theatre alumna Zoe Rowe (Class of 2024) performs in 𝑫𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝑳𝒊𝒉𝒖𝒂, a play following a woman who dies in London and awakens in an afterlife divided by language. Weaving together English and Mandarin, Dear Lihua is a bilingual theatre piece that delves into themes such as migration, assimilation and the emotional complexities of translation.

The show premiered at London’s Canal Café Theatre from 19–20 August, before taking the stage at theSpace Triplex for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 24–29 August 2026.

“I had the honour of receiving the SAF Young Leader Award in 2025. Although it seems rather out of character for an arts student, I decided to apply for it as I was inspired by a senior who previously won the award, and thought it would be a good opportunity to explore my interest in Singapore’s public service and defence.”

Literary Arts graduate Hana Foong Mizoguchi (Class of 2025) sheds light on her revelations from her academic coursework, how the opportunities she undertook in SOTA aided in her development, and her aspirations to contribute towards Singapore’s diplomacy and foreign policy efforts.

Our heartfelt congratulations to Year 5 Literary Arts student Zhang Kaiyu for obtaining 2nd place in the Junior Category of the National Poetry Competition 2026 with her entry ‘𝙩𝙬𝙤-𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙚𝙙’! 👏 Organised by Poetry Festival Singapore with support from the National Arts Council, the competition aims to encourage creative writing and celebrate multilingual works across English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil.

Music alumna and Singaporean singer-songwriter Regina Song (Class of 2022) is set to hold her first-ever solo show in Singapore this November! ♣️Titled ‘everland: the launch show’, the concert represents a culmination of Regina’s growth over the past two years, with its setlist expected to feature songs across her entire career. The show will also be supported by fellow Singaporean singer-songwriter and SOTA alumna rhyu (Class of 2022).

Our students have done it again! 🥳 In this year’s ‘Xin Kong Xia’ Xinyao Singing and Songwriting Competition, our Year 4 Music students snagged several awards. Valerie Lin Eldin (3rd from left) emerged as champion in the solo category and Cadence Sng Wei Mei (1st from left), who participated as part of a duo, brought home the 2nd prize in the Composition (Open) Category! 👏

Congratulations to Year 6 Literary Arts student Alessia Danielle Mary Occhipinti who was awarded the SAF Young Leader Award (SYLA) 2026! 👏 The award recognises students who have demonstrated strong leadership qualities, critical thinking abilities, and a keen interest in Singapore’s defence.

The award was presented by Literary Arts alumna ME4A Maegan Tan (Class of 2024), who was awarded the SAF Scholarship in 2025 and is currently studying Politics and Anthropology at the University of Cambridge. It was also a lovely opportunity for her to reconnect with her former teachers from the Literary Arts faculty!

On behalf of our Year 5 IBDP Visual Arts faculty, we warmly invite you to 𝘛𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴.

𝘛𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 features the works of the Year 5 IBDP Visual Arts cohort of 2026. The title represents a tentative exploration of their artistic identities. As they have only just embarked on their artistic journeys, the process of discovering their identity and means of self-expression is still very much in its infancy, with many aspects neither fully solidified or concrete. They are Teneral; the state in which an insect, having emerged from the pupa, is still soft, fragile and still maturing. Tender Feelings: the emotion underlying each of their works is personal and self-reflective. Their works embody them, in all their different stages of taking form.
