โLike with the metaphor of a chair, shared by a Literary Arts teacher in the lower years: writing is the practical carpentry of putting chairs together. Literature pries that chair apart, and in the process ventures to understand the writerโs thoughts.โ
Class of 2025 Literary Arts graduate Terrell James (TJ) Ng shares his love for writing and literature, his interest outside of writing, and his personal reflections towards writing.

Before the semester ended, our Year 3 Literary Arts (LA) students took us through an evening filled with a hodgepodge of emotions, artistry, and stories as they performed their poems inspired by their observations of people, places, and things.
Featuring villanelles, parodies and free verse poems, the event was an opportunity to showcase their takeaways from the LA poetry modules, as they applied literary techniques from rhyme schemes to figurative language to craft the poems they performed.
Finger snaps for our Year 3 LA students!

Authentic learning opportunities in SOTA provided Loh Min En (Class of 2025, Visual Arts) with a deeper insight into the complexities of implementing decisions and policies, and the importance of listening to the perspectives of the stakeholders it affects. She was able to carry these revelations into her leadership journey as Vice-President of the Leadership Academy (LeAd) where she learned to facilitate discussions and make decisions that serve the wider student body.
Min Enโs journey at SOTA is defined by an unwavering commitment to excellence, shaped by her resilience, compassion and purpose. We are proud of her for receiving the Lee Hsien Loong Valedictorian Award at the SOTA Awards Day earlier in May, and look forward to seeing her contributions to society!
