🎬 Every great story starts with a simple idea.
Before you begin your GENflick journey, take inspiration from fellow RP students Hashireen D/O Abdul Khadar, Davian Tan and Sharveena D/O Nantha Kumar.
Their film, Celebrate Ordinary Heroes, earned the Best Character (Student Category) at GENflick 2025 for its heartfelt portrayal of everyday heroes, brought to life with warmth, authenticity and memorable storytelling
✨ Their success is a reminder that powerful stories don't always come from extraordinary events. Sometimes, they come from recognising the extraordinary in the people around us.
Watch their award-winning film and discover how a meaningful idea can become a compelling story.

In an era of AI and automation, the human touch still matters.😎
As technology continues to reshape the way we work and create, this feature by PM Lawrence Wong is a timely reminder that behind every remarkable piece of work is a human mind, a creative vision, and years of honed craft!
We're super proud to see our Sonic Arts alumnus Hazieq Nizam & the founder of waxguitarservices featured by the Prime Minister, showcasing the skill, passion and craftsmanship that bring ideas to life.
While technology can enhance the creative process, creativity, storytelling and artistic vision remain uniquely human strengths. At STA, we believe the future belongs to those who can combine technology with imagination, proving that great ideas will always need great creators behind them.
Technology evolves. Craft endures. Creativity leads.
As Hazieq shared previously, his journey from a diploma student to a master luthier was ignited by a single line from his lecturer: "Just go for it."
Congratulations on this well-deserved spotlight Hazieqmade Ofwax and all the best with your upcoming move to Michigan!

“Living with left-sided hemiplegia means everyday tasks that others take for granted require immense focus and physical effort,” says Liu Yin Rui, recipient of the RP Character Award at the inaugural RP RISE Awards. “Frankly, every day is a tug-of-war with my physical limits.”
The RP RISE Awards celebrate the excellence and impact RP students create on their journey.
At just nine years old, Yin Rui had major brain surgery after a stroke, which left him with left-sided hemiplegia. The condition affects motor skills on the left side of his body, as well as his memory.
Passionate about design and its power to do social good, he secured a place in RP's Diploma in Design for User Experience through the Early Admissions Exercise in 2024. But he had to defer his studies after being diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and spending a month in hospital.
Determined to make the most of his recovery, Yin Rui focused on rehabilitation, upskilling and giving back to the community. He volunteered with AWWA Community Integration Services (AWWA CIS) Makerspace on its 3D printing project, where he developed a modular urine bag hanger for wheelchairs. The device is now used to give wheelchair users greater comfort, convenience and practicality.
In 2025, he resumed his studies at Republic Polytechnic School of Technology for Arts, Media and Design. His determination and hard work earned him two distinctions and a place on the Director's Roll of Honour. Physical limitations don't define a person's potential for growth or academic excellence.
Beyond the classroom, Yin Rui is an active member of RP's Maker IG and Youth Entrepreneurship IG, and took part in RP's Entrepreneurship Bootcamp. Learning from industry mentors and entrepreneurs gave him a practical view of innovation. It also reaffirmed his wish to build a social enterprise that supports the well-being of persons with disabilities, older adults, and their caregivers.
Congratulations to Yin Rui on receiving the RP Character Award.

“I want to create educational games that make learning more fun and engaging,” says Clare Ang, a Year 2 Diploma in Design student majoring in Games & Gamification. “For students who struggle to understand certain concepts in class, turning learning into a game could help them learn better.” 🎮✨
The Republic Polytechnic School of Technology for Arts, Media and Design student discovered this during her time at the School of Science and Technology, Singapore (SST), where she tutored classmates in Mathematics and Chemistry. Through the experience, she realised that everyone learns differently, and found ways to explain concepts that better connected with her peers. 🤝
Her love for art led her to take Design Studies at SST, where she explored visual communication, interior design, and architecture- and discovered a passion for coding. Her time in the Robotics Club deepened her interest in programming. She found joy in being able to “make things come to life through code”. 💡
Clare also represented her school at the World Robotics Olympiad Future Innovators competition alongside two teammates, where they won the championship. 🥇
Although she initially wanted to become a Mathematics tutor, Clare eventually realised she could combine her passions for art, coding and teaching to create educational games. This inspired her to apply for RP's Diploma in Design through the Early Admissions Exercise (EAE).
“The modules focus more on the ideas behind games, which is exactly what I was most keen to learn,” shares the articulate self-starter. “I'm also really happy to be studying alongside my best friend, Yoon, and we hope to start our own game studio in Singapore one day!” 🫶
📅 EAE Application Periods:
• 11 – 17 June: ITE students
• 25 June – 1 July: O-Level students

“I had plenty of opportunities to try new things, strengthen my hard skills, and grow as a content creator.”
For Gwendolyn, what began as an internship quickly turned into the start of a full-fledged career in digital media.
After completing RP’s Diploma in Mass Communication (DMC), Gwendolyn joined AsiaOne, a leading digital news platform in Singapore, as a full-time staff member. But her journey with the organisation started even earlier during her Industry Immersion Programme (IIP), where she was given the opportunity for internship.
The placement came with encouragement from her DMC lecturer, Ms Carine Leong, who recognised Gwendolyn’s potential and urged her to pursue the opportunity.
“To be honest, I never expected to work in a news organisation,” she shares. “But my IIP experience opened my eyes to the industry.”
Immersed in a fast-paced and dynamic newsroom environment, Gwendolyn discovered a passion for digital content creation. The hands-on exposure allowed her to experiment with different formats, sharpen her technical abilities, and build confidence in her craft. Her contributions and growth did not go unnoticed. Upon graduation, AsiaOne offered her a full-time position, which she accepted.
Eager to continue developing professionally while gaining industry experience, Gwendolyn enrolled in the Work-Study Post-Diploma (Specialist Diploma in Digital Content Creation for Business) from Republic Polytechnic School of Technology for Arts, Media and Design. Balancing full-time work with further studies, she successfully completed the programme this April.
Now a year into her full-time role, Gwendolyn hopes to continue learning and growing in the media industry, while working towards completing her Work-Study Post-Diploma. She also plans to pursue a degree in the future. Looking back, she is grateful for how each step has shaped her journey and opened doors she never expected.
