🇵🇭 Filipina masters student in Paris 🥐
#EducationForAll activist sharing tips & opportunities

Back in high school, I wrote on my vision board: study abroad and work with the UN.

I didn’t know how it would happen, or if it even could. But I held onto it anyway.

A few years later, right after submitting my thesis, I secretly applied to grad school in France. Two weeks after graduation, I got an email — I’d been awarded a scholarship. I couldn’t believe it.

On September 7, I flew to Paris with a one-way ticket, found a small place to call home, did odd jobs in a very expensive city, and worked like crazy.

It’s been beautiful, messy, and nothing like I imagined - but somehow, it all makes sense. ✨ Hold on to your dreams, no matter how impossible they seem.

Fully-funded conference ✨ deadline today!

One of my most memorable moments as a youth leader was in Singapore two years ago when Hitachi gathered 30 top students from ASEAN for a learning-filled week in the prestigious Marina Bay Sands.

It was such an honor to represent our country. That time, I was doing my final semester in UP. I recall checking in my hotel room, seeing the whole landscape of Singapore and visually saving it in my head. What an experience. We toured SG's sustainable gardens, created project pitches and presented it to the top leaders of the region. In between, the life-long friendships formed, fun tours and hearty buffets made it unforgettable. Did I mention it was fully-funded?

I am resharing as I backtrack in my journey and also because this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is again open for 2024. This year, it will be in Bali, Indonesia. This year's theme is Inclusion and Sustainability. If you are a youth leader and university student from ASEAN countries and Japan, don’t hesitate to register, it’s until tomorrow! https://hitachi.asia/hyli/

PS. I heard not a lot of Filipinos are signing up for it 👀 Y'all, we need to do take action about the way we share free and fully-funded learning opportunities like this. It should be accessible to more youth, especially the marginalized.

Opportunity 🌟

Last two days to register! https://hitachi.asia/hyli/

Hi everyone. Re-sharing this because we don't have a lot of Filipinos registering. This golden chance brought me to Singapore where I met 30 new friends and learned so so so much.

This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is again open and this year it will be in Bali, Indonesia. If you are a youth leader from ASEAN countries and Japan, don't hesitate to register, it's until tomorrow!

The UP Department of Family Life and Child Development congratulates our very own BS FLCD student, Raven B. Frias, one of the four representatives of the Philippines to the Hitachi Young Leaders Initiative (HYLI) 2022 in Singapore this July.

HYLI, established in 1996, is a regional thought leadership and social responsibility program organized by Hitachi, with the aim of helping Asia identify its future leaders by providing a platform for bright university students. At the initiative, four of the best and brightest university students from each participating country meet to discuss current regional and global issues. They will also exchange views with prominent speakers who are the Asian leaders of today, representing governments, business and academia (Hitachi, n.d.).

The 16th edition of HYLI 2022 is designed to further develop the student participants’ perception and understanding of how social innovation can help in adapting to the new normal, realize a sustainable society, and improve the quality of life in the region (Hitachi, n.d.).

Safe travels and we are wishing you the best of luck, Teacher Raven!

Your UPCHE FLCD family is so proud of you!
