🎓 Educators as Designers: Reflections from the AICET Learning Journey

On 1 July, AICET brought together educators from schools and institutes of higher learning, along with guest speakers, for its latest Learning Journey — themed "Educators as Designers: Creating AI-Powered Learning Experiences."

The throughline across every session? Start with the learning problem, not the tool.

A few highlights that stood out:

💡 Pedagogy first. Good edtech doesn't always mean maximum convenience — sometimes it means preserving productive struggle so real learning can happen.

🎨 Creativity is still human. AI can generate endless possibilities, but people are the ones who decide what's meaningful. One framework shared on the day — Direct, Generate, Select — showed how educators can guide students through this process.

👩‍🏫 Teachers as builders. LLMs now let teachers build custom simulations and interactive tools tailored to their own classrooms — no more settling for "good enough" existing resources.

💙 Scale without losing the human touch. From AI-powered speaking practice platforms like KouShi to grassroots initiatives such as ScholAIstic and assessment tools like Softmark, the common thread was AI handling repetitive work so teachers can focus on what matters most: understanding and supporting their students.

The takeaway: meaningful AI integration doesn't start with mastering a tool — it starts with understanding learners and designing experiences technology can enhance.

From 2027, all higher education students in Singapore will build foundational AI skills tailored to their fields. At AICET, we firmly believe tech should scale sound teaching, not replace the invaluable 'struggle of learning'.
