Who else hears the catchy theme song seeing the familiar opening scene? In 2003, Mediacorp Channel 8’s Holland V became one of Singapore’s most memorable dramas, centred around a family running a nasi lemak business in Holland Village.

But here is the twist.

The most famous nasi lemak in Holland V… was not filmed in Holland V. While some scenes were filmed in Holland Village, the actual nasi lemak shop was filmed at Punggol 21 Nasi Lemak in Upper Serangoon.

The drama became so popular that it was extended. It even inspired a Holland Village business owner to open a nasi lemak shop named after the fictional stall in the show, Holland Village nasi lemak, which is still standing today.

That is the interesting thing about places. Sometimes they are shaped by buildings, roads, and businesses. And sometimes, they are the stories people continue to associate with long after the credits roll.

You may have heard a PETROF, even if you did not know it. I am sure you will recognise the song in the first 5 seconds of hearing that piano sing.

When Billie Eilish and Finneas created “What Was I Made For?”, the Oscar and Grammy-winning song from “Barbie”, they did so on a PETROF P135 K1 upright piano owned by Finneas.

The same instrument later accompanied them on some of the world's biggest stages, with the piano appearing at both the Grammy Awards and the Academy Awards.

PETROF has never been a piano that demands attention. It simply becomes an undeniable part of the music. The next “Czech-pter” begins. Last year, we welcomed two unforgettable evenings of Czech artistry to Singapore, moments where European sound, craftsmanship, and storytelling came together on stage at Victoria Concert Hall.
