“Dairy ingredients play a vital role across the life course. With protein-fortified and functional dairy products gaining strong momentum, the opportunity to improve population health through evidence-based dairy innovation has never been greater,” shared Dr Kalpana Bhaskaran, Deputy Director, Industry Partnerships and Head, Glycemic Index Research Unit (GIRU) at Temasek Polytechnic, highlighting the growing importance of science-led nutrition solutions across Asia💡🥛.
The European Union, together with Bord Bia – The Irish Food Board, is strengthening its engagement with Singapore through the “European Dairy: Ireland, Where Nature Meets Science” campaign. The €3.2 million EU co-funded initiative promotes sustainable dairy production, scientific research, and long-term regional partnerships.
As Southeast Asia’s population continues to grow and age rapidly, demand for functional foods, healthy ageing products, sports nutrition, and life-stage nutrition is accelerating. Singapore’s position as a regional hub for food innovation and advanced food manufacturing makes it a strategic gateway for collaboration between European dairy producers and Asian food innovators, supporting the next generation of science-backed nutrition solutions 📈.

Meet Desiree ✨🤖, a future AI innovator from TP’s Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence at the Temasek Polytechnic Informatics and IT School.
💬 Desiree’s EAE Tip: “If you’re selected for an interview, make sure you research your chosen diploma thoroughly! Mentioning topics not covered in the course may suggest a lack of understanding of what you’re applying for.”
Desiree’s passion for AI first began through her love for robotics and games 🎮⚙️, which soon evolved into a deeper interest in intelligent systems and emerging technologies. Seeing the strong growth and future potential of AI, she knew TP’s Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence was the perfect fit for her interests and aspirations 🚀.
When preparing for EAE, Desiree stayed true to herself by writing authentically and using AI tools to refine and strengthen her ideas ✨. Her portfolio reflected not only her achievements, but also her initiative in exploring AI independently beyond the classroom 💡.
Beyond academics, Desiree made the most of campus life by joining CCAs, contributing actively to the Japanese Cultural Group, and organising events as part of the Anime & Manga subcommittee 🌸🎉.
Outside school, she also volunteers with Heartware Network, continuing to give back to the community ❤️.
Today, Desiree hopes to pursue robotics and develop AI-powered systems that can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, combining innovation with purpose 🌟!

Behind every learning journey is a reason. For Mr Jason Tan, that reason was his son.
When his son Isaac was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and mild intellectual disability, Mr Tan found himself searching for answers, support and a better way forward. That search eventually led him to TP, where he enrolled in the Specialist Diploma in Applied Autism Studies to better understand and support Isaac.
As a first-time parent, Mr Tan initially thought Isaac was simply taking a little longer to learn. But when Isaac struggled in primary school, the family found themselves overwhelmed and unsure of where to turn. It was this lived experience that made Mr Tan’s learning at TP especially meaningful, as he gained deeper insights into autism and how best to support his son.
After years of watching Isaac struggle, the family found hope when he transferred to a special education (SPED) school. In a more supportive environment, Isaac became happier and more confident, while continuing to develop his interests in art and music 🎨🎼. Seeing Isaac’s progress further strengthened Mr Tan’s purpose, inspiring him to continue learning at TP through the Specialist Diploma in Adult Disability Practice.
For Mr Tan, learning at TP has become more than professional development. It is a father’s way of turning love into action, and a step towards helping Isaac live with greater independence 🌟.
