Once Upon a Lilypad – MIS Annual Concert 2026 ✨
What a wonderful morning watching our students take the stage for the Melbourne International School Annual Concert!
This year’s theme, Once Upon a Lilypad, reminds us that we are all different and that is exactly what makes each of us special. We all have our own strengths, talents and our own little spark. Sometimes it shines brightly and sometimes we may need a little encouragement to help it shine but it is always there. Our students brought this beautiful message to life through their performances, showcasing their creativity, confidence and individuality on stage.
The morning also marked a very special moment with the unveiling of the Once Upon a Lilypad storybook by our Founding Director, Ms Jayne Nadarajoo, together with Dasya, our student from GUILD International College, who illustrated the book. Seeing Dasya’s illustrations come to life in a published story was a meaningful reflection of what we strive to create for our students and opportunities to discover their strengths, develop their talents and turn their ideas into something real.
Heartfelt congratulations to all our students, teachers and parents who made this year’s Annual Concert such a memorable one!

Outdoor learning creates meaningful opportunities to move, regulate, connect and learn in a natural environment.

At Melbourne International School, outdoor sessions include PE classes followed by free play, combining structured movement with opportunities for incidental learning, learning that happens naturally through play, exploration and everyday interactions.

These moments can encourage students to practise communication, social interaction, turn-taking, problem-solving and decision-making in real-life contexts, while movement and outdoor experiences can also support sensory and emotional regulation.

Communication is more than speech.
It is how a child expresses a choice, asks for help, shares an idea, joins an activity and connects with the people around them.

At Melbourne International School, AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) is part of our Total Communication approach. Our educators and therapists integrate AAC throughout the school day, using both low-tech AAC such as printed communication boards, symbols and other hard copy visual supports, as well as high-tech AAC through digital devices and communication technology depending on each student’s communication needs.

For educators and therapists, AAC is more than a tool. It helps create access to communication, learning and meaningful participation.

For parents, it can mean seeing their child have more opportunities to express themselves, make choices, connect with others and build greater independence.

What does Occupational Therapy look like at Melbourne International School?

Occupational Therapy (OT) helps neurodivergent children build independence and confidence in everyday life like learning, playing, connecting with others and caring for themselves.

At MIS, our Senior Occupational Therapist, Judith Ramos-Guerrero, works closely with students, teachers and families to grow each child’s skills and where needed, adapt the environment around them for successful participation.

OT can support -
• Fine motor skills – building the coordination and control needed for writing, cutting, and daily tasks
•Sensory regulation – helping students manage sensory experiences so they’re ready to engage and learn
•Self-care skills – growing independence in everyday routines
•Emotional regulation – developing strategies to recognise and manage emotions
•Classroom participation – supporting attention, engagement and belonging

Sometimes progress comes from developing a new skill and sometimes it comes from adapting the environment or finding the right strategy for the individual child.

Every step towards greater participation is a step towards greater confidence and independence.
