Graduate Studies Career Development Office recently organised a company visit and recruitment talk at the World Bank Group’s Singapore office for our postgraduate students.

During the session, representatives shared insights into the work of the World Bank Group and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), as well as career pathways through the Young Professionals Program, WBG Pioneers programme, consultancy roles, and permanent positions.

A highlight of the visit was the networking session, where students engaged directly with WBG colleagues from different teams. Their feedback reflected how these conversations helped deepen their understanding of the organisation, its work, and the range of career pathways available.

We extend our appreciation to the World Bank Group’s HR and Operations teams, speakers, and colleagues for their thoughtful planning, generous sharing, and warm hospitality. Their collective efforts made the visit an engaging and valuable learning experience for our students.

Such industry engagements reflect NBS’s commitment to connecting our students with leading global organisations and equipping them with the insights, networks, and exposure to make informed career decisions.

From COBOL programmer to global business leader, Terry Smagh’s career journey has been anything but conventional.

A double NTU postgraduate alumnus (NTU MSc Knowledge Management & Nanyang EMBA), Terry became Qlik’s youngest Regional Vice President for the Asia Pacific and Japan market at the age of 29, growing a team from one to 300 in six years. He has since led businesses through significant growth and turned around a legacy business, achieving double-digit EBITDA within 20 months.

As an NBS Alumni Advisory Board member, mentor, and speaker, Terry remains deeply connected to his alma mater while paving the way for the next generation of leaders.

His golden advice to young professionals embarking on their careers? "You either Do or DO." Try with 100% effort, ask questions in real-time, and take absolute ownership of your journey.

What happens when a husband and wife decide to take on an MBA together? 🎓​

Meet Yuvraj Gupta and Mohini Asthana, who started their Nanyang MBA journey as newlyweds and spent two years learning, challenging and supporting each other along the way.​

From global case competitions and AI challenges to community building and leadership, they each carved their own path at Nanyang while achieving a remarkable milestone together: both made the Dean’s Honours List, with Mohini graduating as Class Valedictorian and Yuvraj as PGC Class Champion.​

Some of the strongest alumni connections are built when alumni themselves take the lead.

At NBS, we support alumni-led initiatives that create opportunities to reconnect and strengthen ties across our community.

At our recent 𝐍𝐁𝐒 𝐀𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐢 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐑𝐮𝐧. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭. 𝐔𝐧𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝 event, members of the NBS Alumni Youth Wing came together for a refreshing 3 km evening run around Marina Bay, followed by dinner and networking. The informal setting gave participants the opportunity to unwind, exchange career experiences, and build new friendships beyond their usual circles.

A big thank you to the HR leaders and professionals who joined us for a morning of candid conversations, fresh perspectives and meaningful connections on AI, geopolitics and the future of work.

One message came through strongly: while technology and global forces are reshaping organisations at speed, successful transformation is still fundamentally about people. From building workforce capabilities and navigating uncertainty to adopting AI responsibly and preparing leaders for change, HR has an increasingly important role in shaping the organisations of tomorrow.

Our sincere thanks to Dr Ruchi Sinha, Dr Stefan Seiler, Damian Leach, Wendy Chang, Jaclyn and Bryan Lim for sharing their perspectives and experiences, and to everyone who contributed so openly to the discussions.
