Ridge View Residential College The RVRC Experience - Empowering students with sustainability education and workplace readiness

Ridge View Residential College (RVRC) offers students a distinct two-year living-learning experience to foster a community of growth and excellence. The RVRC Programme models values of stewardship to the society and the environment enabled through robust inter-disciplinary education, active community engagement, and critical introspection. Throughout their residency, our students work closely with

dedicated Fellows, called ‘Academic Advisors’. Learning is conducted in small groups to enhance student engagement with Academic Advisors and peers. This ensures that our students have ample opportunities and support for individual growth during their residency at RVRC. Formal learning in the academic modules is complemented by a suite of co-academic activities and initiatives aligned with students' individual interests and the College values. These activities make learning fun while becoming the catalyst for strategic learning outcomes beyond the classroom and to further the college mission to hone future-oriented leaders.

From sports 🏐🥏 to clubs and societies 🪴🎸☕️ to student and residential life groups 🫂👩‍💻🕺, there’s so much to discover at RV!

RV’s annual Showcase Fiesta brought together our wide range of student-led interest groups (IGs). Through chatting with seniors and engaging in activities at booths run by the student bodies, residents were able to discover various opportunities to make student life in RV more fulfilling ‼️🔥

As they went from booth to booth, participants collected stamps on a rally card to redeem snacks (from live food stations 🙀🍿) and prizes!

Thank you CSC and IG seniors for organising, and thank you RV for bringing the enthusiasm!

Exploring Sustainability in the Workplace 💼🌱👨‍💻

RVRC’s inaugural run of RVR2001 Sustainability Internship culminated in the Sustainability Internship Colloquium. Eight students completed internships at seven partner organisations, experiencing first-hand how sustainability is practised in the workplace.

Having grown in many ways and gleaned many insights, our students shared their diverse internship experiences at the colloquium 🧑‍💼🎤⭐️️️️️️️

We would like to sincerely thank our partner organisations (especially the workplace supervisors) and RVRC academic fellows for mentoring the students closely and making this meaningful learning opportunity possible 💜

Starting the Academic Year by Making a Positive Impact 🫶🌱💜

RVRC volunteers set out to Maxwell and Chinatown, collecting donations as part of NUS Students’ Union RAG & Flag in support of Community Chest and its supported Social Service Agencies.

RVRC is proud to be part of this long-standing NUS tradition, coming together in a collective spirit of compassion, creativity, and giving back to the community. We are also delighted to receive the Flag Bronze award this year! 🥰🌟

The RVC2000E study trip across East Malaysia, as part of the NUS SouthEastAsia Friendship Initiative (SFI) was one filled with growth and learning for our students. 🌱🧠 From 9 to 19 May, they journeyed together from the heart of Kuching in Sarawak to the tip of Borneo in Sabah! 🚌🇲🇾

Speaking to indigenous artisans and watching turtles hatch, connecting with fellow university students and visiting partner organisations... The trip was a myriad of meaningful experiences 💫🐢 Students were able peel back the layers of culture and sustainability, which are two concepts often taken for-granted, to re-examine their meaning in a different social and spatial context. 🗺️⛰️

RVRC would like to express deep gratitude to various partners for their generous hospitality, as well as the NUS Global Relations Office and the Provost Office, for making this incredible opportunity possible!

Across Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, and Penang, our 10-day RVC2000W West Malaysia study trip gave us the opportunity to explore culture and sustainability through new perspectives and lived experiences. 🌏

From fishing villages and homestay to university engagement and vibrant urban spaces, we saw how sustainability is shaped by culture, place, and livelihoods. 🌱 Each visit, conversation, and shared experience broadened our perspectives, enabling a deeper appreciation of the realities and challenges of sustainability in everyday life. ✨
