Kalฤ โœจ โ€” an evening of performance, culture, and reflection.

Organised by the NUS South Asian Studies Society, this South Asian Performance Night brings together a dynamic range of student groups to showcase the richness and diversity of South Asian traditions. Through dance, music, and drama, Kalฤ explores how culture is expressed, preserved, and reimagined across generations.

We warmly invite our South Asian Studies community to join us in supporting these student performers and engaging with the arts as a lens into history, faith, and lived experience.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ We look forward to seeing you there.

Donโ€™t miss the fifth and final FASS Brown Bag Seminar of the semester, where Assistant Professor Bhoomika Joshi (NUS South Asian Studies) will present "Attachments to Hurt".

Date & Time: Fri 10 Apr, 12-1 pm

Zoom: https://tinyurl.com/BhoomikaJoshi

This presentation will focus on the key and overarching argument of Asst Prof Bhoomika Joshi's book manuscript Attachments to Hurt (work in progress). More often than not, hurt is studied as a constitutive expression of the historically oppressed and marginalized. Based on over a decade of research, the book centres on the contradictions of hurt as a social fact when it becomes constitutive of the politics of the traditionally privileged (caste) elite and its social, economic, political, and cultural life in India. In the landscape of growing concerns about majoritarianism across the world, Attachments to Hurt offers and invites ideas on what it is about the constitution of hurt that makes it available to the reification of whiteness, blasphemy, religious revivalism, and caste dominance.

Bhoomika Joshi is Assistant Professor of Contemporary South Asia at NUS. She is an anthropologist with research and teaching interests in caste, gender, mobility, and development. Her work has been published in the American Anthropologist, Cultural Anthropology, Economic and Political Weekly, and South Asia: Journal of South Asian Studies. She is a bilingual writer and translator, and author of a Hindi novella, Lachchhi: The Newness of Nostalgia (Vani Publications 2020).
