I've been seeing many questions, both offline and online, on whether Chinese New Year and Lunar New Year are the same. The answer is no because of the following:

1. Chinese New Year is actually based on lunisolar calendar ie referencing to both the Sun and the Moon.

2. Although the months are calculated using the Moon, which is either 29 or 30 days, the year is adjusted to match to solar year of 365 days by adding an additional month. This adjustment occurs 7 times for every 19 years on average. Determination of the additional month to be discussed separately.

3. Chinese New Year usually occurs between Jan and Feb and the adjustment ensures that the year is neither too early (too cold like December) nor too late (too hot like March).

4. Wrong to say Lunar New Year which only references to the Moon. Eg. Islamic calendar. For various reasons such as political or commercial, Lunar New Year is used.

12th solar term 大暑 Dàshǔ (Great Heat)

大暑，二十四节气之一，气候特点：高温酷热。斗指丙；太阳黄经为120°；公历7月22—24日交节。大暑是一年中最热的节气，“湿热交蒸”在此时到达顶点。在我国很多地区，经常会出现摄氏40度的高温天气。从古至今，民间都有大暑三伏天饮凉茶（伏茶）的习俗；伏茶顾名思义，是三伏天饮的茶，这种中草药煮成的茶水有清凉祛暑的作用。此外，还有烧伏香、晒伏姜、吃羊肉汤等习俗。
