ICT Tools and Technologies for Deep Learning
To facilitate ICT-enriched learning, the school is equipped with Computer Labs and classes are wired up with internet access, and students have access to laptops, iPads and teachers explore ICT affordances to nurture Self Directed Learning and Collaborative Learning, through the various online learning portals. The school will be allocating Chromebooks for every Secondary 1 learner to allow for 1-to-1 computing device enabled learning. This is aligned to the school's efforts in developing students who are self-directed and engaged learners. Applied Learning Programme (ALP) in Clean Energy and Environmental Technology
As part of the JOULES programme, BVSS’ ALP is in the area of Clean Energy and Environmental Technology. Its authentic learning based curriculum aims to foster the application of critical and inventive thinking skills, and knowledge connection across subject disciplines, hence, stretching students' imagination in solving real-world problems. The Tier 1 programme involves all students. The Secondary One students are taught about the energy crisis and create a Solar Car while the Secondary 2 students learn the issue of water pollution and are programming a water-sensing robot. The Tier 2 programme is targeted at students who display a strong interest in pursuing their passion at a deeper level. In-house programmes such as Responsibility to Society Forum and external programmes such as STEP-NUS Sunburst Environment Programme will be catered to these students. The Thinking HATs (High Achieving Talents in Science) programme is a Science Talent Management Programme for the high achieving students in the Express Stream. We offer other talent development programmes to stretch our high ability students:

Coding and Computational Thinking Infused (CacTus) Curriculum
As part of STEM education, students transfer the coding and computational thinking skills learnt to other disciplines subjects ranging from Computing, Math, Science, Design and Technology, and Citizenship and Character Education. Through the curriculum, students develop computational thinking, problem-solving and logical thinking skills to apply the knowledge learnt in real-life situations. BUILDING CHARACTER AND ENTREPRENEURIAL DARE
BVSS places great importance in preparing students for the world by focusing on character development, underpinned by values, with emphasis on Social-Emotional Learning Competencies. The school weaves in self-discovery by our students and learning values through real-life activities when designing its Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) curriculum eg learning journeys to enhance cross-cultural literacy and Sports and Outdoor Education programmes. Learning for Life Programme (LLP)- Learning the Arts, Living the Values
The school’s LLP involves explicit learning of values, and socio and emotional (SE) competencies in our students through Drama. Drama, as a pedagogical tool, is powerful because the use and balance of thought and feeling make learning enjoyable, exciting and relevant for the students. Medical Emergency? False Alarm!
It was simply our Secondary 4 students swapping textbooks for hands-on experiences as they plunged into the ever-popular Applied Learning Modules (ApLM). Whether in Nursing & Healthcare, Photography, or Hospitality & Culinary, they embraced every opportunity to learn by doing.
Budding photographers were working on the perfect angles as newly trained healthcare workers dressed make-believe wounds, took the vital signs of school staff, and even sprang into action to resuscitate “patients” in simulated emergencies. Elsewhere, aspiring hospitality professionals were in their element — bartenders expertly shook cocktails and brewed coffee, friendly wait staff welcomed patrons with warm smiles, while busy chefs hustled behind the scenes, warming soups and plating pilaf with flair.
The energy was infectious, the enthusiasm unmistakable, and curiosity was everywhere. Applied Learning Week (ALW) gave our students the chance to explore new interests beyond the classroom and catch a glimpse of possible futures — and they seized every moment.

Applied Learning Week (ALW) brought high energy and sharp thinking to our Secondary 3 students. The Sports Enrichment Programme (SEP) saw them head to the courts for fast-paced action, teamwork and plenty of movement. Kin-Ball kept everyone on their toes as they raced to catch and launch the giant, colourful ball soaring through the air, building coordination, communication and fitness. Over at Tchoukball, they fired quick, powerful shots at the rebound frame, testing reflexes and precision in a dynamic, fast-moving game.
The momentum continued at the Sec 3 Critical Thinking and Presentation Skills Workshop, where students switched gears to train their thinking and communication skills. Through lively discussions and guided practice, they learnt to unpack conversation topics, form clear, well-reasoned opinions and support them with structured elaboration. In the process, they strengthened their ability to present ideas logically and professionally, skills that are essential 21st Century Competencies.
From energetic gameplay to focused discussion, ALW challenged our students to think fast, work together and express themselves with confidence.

What is knowledge if it is not used to make a difference?
Our Secondary 2 students brought the spirit of Applied Learning Week (ALW) to life as they transformed their learning into innovative smart city solutions designed to serve the community. Drawing on their knowledge of Science, Design & Technology and Computing, they created working prototypes that addressed real-world needs — from smart walking sticks for the visually impaired and rain sensors that automatically close windows, to self-watering plant systems and many more ingenious ideas.
Behind every prototype lay a journey of purpose-driven ideation, trial and error, testing and refinement. The Showcase was a testament not only to the students' creativity and technical skills, but also to their empathy, resilience and determination to improve lives through innovation. Most impressive of all was their commitment to putting people at the heart of their designs. We are proud to see not just capable problem-solvers, but empathetic citizens in the making.

POV: Your Applied Learning Week (ALW) includes a Secondary 1 Camp packed with high-element adventures, kayaking, and quality time with your classmates beyond the classroom.
Our Secondary 1 students embraced every challenge that came their way — from scaling new heights, literally, to paddling across the waters as a team. There were a few screams, plenty of laughter, and no shortage of encouragement from friends every step of the way.
Amid the challenges, inside jokes, and shared experiences, Secondary 1 Camp gave our students more than just an adventure. It created memories, strengthened friendships, and sparked stories that will stay with them long after ALW has come to an end.

Stories Leapt Off the Page and Onto the Stage - Assembly turned into a live theatre showcase as our Secondary 1 students brought powerful stories from the book Wonder to life through heartfelt skits and dramatic performances centred on the theme of bullying.
From emotional scenes to thought-provoking moments, the students explored the impact of words and actions, the importance of empathy and inclusion, and the courage needed to stand up for others. Their performances not only entertained the audience, but also sparked meaningful reflection on how kindness and understanding can truly change someone’s life.
More than just a performance, it was a vibrant showcase of creativity, teamwork, and 21st CC values — proving that some of the most important lessons extend far beyond the stage.

A perfect day for a little outdoor adventure!
At the BVSS Annual Cross-Country, we took on a spirited 3.6km route—winding past the Tanjong Rhu promenade, alongside the Kallang River, past the Benjamin Sheares Bridge, and back to the Sports Hub. What’s the best way to shake off mid-term fatigue?
An afternoon of staff bonding that doubled as a stress reliever—complete with giant UNO showdowns and rowdy pillow fights. The cards called for strategy, while the pillows unleashed pure chaos. Laughter bounced off the walls, and bursts of energetic youthfulness reminded everyone how to let loose and have fun together.
We eagerly await the next session of shared merriment and spirited fun.

Forging Friendships in a Complex World!
Our International Friendship Day assembly unfolded with heartfelt stories from our very own students, Catherine and Miel, who brought us closer to the cultures of Myanmar and the Philippines, setting the tone for a rich cultural experience. The energy soared with captivating dance performances by Sri Warisan, infusing the atmosphere with rhythm and vibrancy. Across the day, the celebration spilled beyond the assembly as staff and students donned traditional ethnic costumes, transforming the school into a lively tapestry of cultures.
A lovely celebration of diversity, unity, and the friendships that bring us together.
